If someone has mentioned this book before I apologize but I recommend "The Alienist" by Calib Carr. A historical fiction account of the first use of psychology, fingerprints and other modern police techniques to solve a serial murder case in 1800s New York(think Teddy Roosevelt was governor and JP Morgan was still around. Good read.

Reading the new Dan Brown book, "Inferno". If you liked his earlier books you'll like this one too.

Welcome to Eccie, Kiera.

Interesting list.

Did you read The Year of the Flood?

I actually haven't read any of Atwood's other books. There isn't any particular reason, now that I think about it.

I'll tell you what. It is in my book queue and I will bump it up to numero uno. I'll start it tomorrow morning and get back to you. I would think that I'll be done by the end of the week.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Here are a couple of my favorites leaving out anything that had been discussed. There have been some good ones

Spin - Robert Charles Wilson

Watchers - Dean Koontz

Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand

If you want mindless but highly entertaining The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher or Monster Hunter International by Larry Correia

Yep, read that one years ago. Great book. The sequel was "The Angel of Darkness" which was equally good.

Sex at Dawn: How We Mate, Why We Stray, & What it Means for Modern Relationships - Christopher Ryan *Basically, as primates, we are not meant to be monogamous. When you hear about a man needing to spread his seed, it really is an honest innate biological need. Screwing around is in our DNA. I'm sure the hobbyists here will appreciate this recommendation & may even want to pass it along to their wives when they're done with it. Don't hate the messenger.

Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln - Doris Kearns Goodwin
*The film, "Lincoln" is based (somewhat) on this book. The book is better & I highly recommend it.

Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn *Excellent suspenseful murder mystery. Very easy read.

Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood series) - JR Ward *The ladies here will enjoy these books. Naughty horny vampires. MUCH better than True Blood.

I read Ender's Game when it first came out and enjoyed it. However I never knew there were more I'll have to look into it.
I also enjoyed the Foundation Series by Isaac Azimov.

Yeah Ender's Game has 4 books in the series total (Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, Children of the Mind).

There's also a spinoff series (the Ender's Shadow stuff) where Bean is the main character. I actually like the Bean series overall better than the Ender series although Ender's Game is still the best book out of both series.

another one of my favs is Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and its series. it's full of quirky dark humor. here's a page of some of the best quotes from the book: http://bookriot.com/2013/05/25/for-t...galaxy-series/
