That analogy doesn't work for what you are advocating.
1. What would be equivalent to yelling fire in a movie theater is if you attended a non-eccie sponsored social at a public location. And somewhere along the way, stood up on a barstool and yelled, "Damn, can you believe this hooker (pointing to the young lady sitting next to you) wants to charge $250 for a BNG. In my car?" Not cool. Especially if you have to provide the vehicle.
2. A better movie analogy to the forum discussions would be that after sitting thru a terrible movie without yelling fire, you write a review. And in this review you refer to the lead actress as a bitch that was too old, ugly and fat. Some people would find that offensive. Others would think that perfectly appropriate and pertinent.
IMO, only restrictions on speech between adults should be those for safety or legal reasons. Let people be as crass as they want to be and you can come on and say, "Hey, that's crass". Also, I recognize that this is a private forum and the owners have a right to impose the rules that want. Get too restrictive and people will move on.
Go 49ers.

I do agree that it is a form of intimidation when males bully the providers into being scared to post and affect their business. That's part of why I post. I don't always agree with the provider side of things. I get a lot of flack for siding with the guys here many times. But, at least, it levels things a bit.
But remember, the way to change things is from within...so don't give up. There are many ladies who appreciate your thoughts. Guys, too.

Hypothetically speaking - If someone in this lifestyle told me it was wrong, I wouldn't be doing it with them!

I completely understand where you're coming from, but you may as well let it go. There is no 'fighting the good fight' in a battle you can't win.
First of all, you have a very weak board management. They don't care. They attempted to show some sort of order by the rules in one of the posts in this thread, but it's just a 'front' to show there is some sort of order.
http://www.eccie.net/announcement.php?f=5
A couple of the rules that are often overlooked are these. If they meant business, the first time someone called one of the ladies (for example) a 'fat whore', they would've received points. It (points given) didn't happen as it was often repeated.
Quote:
#1 - Avoid cases of unprovoked rudeness to others. No place for it here. Yes, with the dynamic nature of the threads and topics, tempers will flare and things will become heated from time to time. You may often encounter individuals who become passionate or emotional when expressing one's opinion or point of view. That's all understood and perfectly acceptable within reason…….but, start slamming or bashing another member and be met with consequences.
#3 - Disrespect to others, IN GENERAL, will be considered an item of low tolerance, especially when posting in our coed forums. Follow the Golden Rule and treat others as you wish to be treated yourself. This applies to fellow members as well as staff. We do not require that you have respect for us, but we do require that you treat us respectfully in the public forums. If you feel the need to vent, gripe, or blow off some steam regarding a staff member's action or decision, we ask that you keep it private. Email, RTM, or the PM system would be the appropriate avenue to take in such cases. In cases where you would like to request additional clarity about a staff decision, you are free to pursue an answer in either a public forum or private means of communication. If handled publicly, post your inquiry in a respectful manner.
|
This board basically functions as a 'boy's club'. I do find it ironic that some freely slam the ladies here, yet they need them on occasion. I often times feel, that for some of the members, the ladies really aren't wanted here, outside of showcases and specials.
The other major problem is that you have too many 30-50 year old adolescents that post whatever they want to post, without having to take responsibility for what they post.
For the most post, the reason threads like this don't go anywhere is most of the guys/gals that agree, just prefer not to put their feelings out there, while the guys who love the status quo will fight to keep 'their' site 'theirs', and are very aggressive to keep things running their way.

Actually, being vulgar and crass to another person or if you were a jackass in a public area, it's called Disturbing the Peace.
http://law.onecle.com/texas/penal/42.01.00.html
You actually have more leeway in a private area, but the host is likely to place restrictions on you as well. I know I would.
No one can just go around acting like an ass without repercussions.
Would you go up to a guy twice your size and be crass? Why would you do that to a woman unless you are a bully?

Oh please, what goes on here is the same microcosm of personalities that exists on every Internet forum everywhere. This is just the hooker board version of the same old shit.
You've got your standard message board archetypes; The Troll, The Hero, The Flirt, The Damsel in Distress, The Everyman, The Founding Member, and a million others that you see over and over again if you spend any time at all on boards.
As always the vocal minority of loud assholes get a lot of attention, and generalizations get made about the user base as a whole...which are wrong and misguided. Occasionally threads get posted like this one encouraging people to just cumbaya and get along with one another. Same as it ever was, only this time, this site, it's different right?
Your heart is in the right place but one of two things is happening. You're either preaching to the choir (the vast majority of users agree with you) or you're pissing into the wind (I doubt any internet asshole at any time anywhere has ever had an epiphany and changed his ways on the internet). Either way it's an exercise in futility.

I guess we should agree to disagree. I'm a member of several different forums (cars, fishing, sports) and moderate two of them. On those sites we have an occasional 'problem child', but I can guarantee you that on none of those forums do we have the same amount of rudeness that this site has. No where close.
I've seen some internet discussions going on with such things as manual transmission vs. automatic transmission.............small block vs. big block...........best places to fish on the Gulf coast............Chevy vs. Ford vs. Ricers...........how bad Astro management sucks........buying Korean made OBX headers vs. buying American made headers, but nothing on any of those sites comes close to being as bad as a handful of ECCIE members can get.
Please don't tell me that we can get by with rude conduct toward others because this site deals with prostitution vs. dealing with cars, sports, fishing, etc. What kind of site we post on shouldn't have any bearing on the rudeness factor we use against others.

Not being petty about word choices, but there is a distinct difference between ...
.......... "liking" something and being "okay" with it.
The former we "enjoy" while the latter we "tolerate."

I agree the ratio of personalities varies from board to board but the underlying dynamics are the same.
In my opinion most of the "rude conduct" comes from the same small handful of people. Since this site is loosely moderated and heavily tilted in favor of freedom of expression they are allowed to continue.
I personally favor freedom of expression, isn't life PC enough already? Must Internet forums be also? I'm not condoning assholish behavior but I appreciate the forums that trend toward a libertarian approach to moderation. Other users are free to call out the assholes if they wish. Either way, it's a relatively unfiltered experience.
To paraphrase Voltaire, "I may not agree with what you say, but I'll fight to the death to defend your right to say it".
Anyway, the same microcosm exists in every forum I've been on since the internet has been around. Since you brought it up though I probably should have said "in varying degrees". Yeah sure it gets a little bit Lord Of The Flies-esque sometimes but so be it.
