I would say an of average ten pounds in a week. Even though a person may survive Ebola and the activity of the virus has been eradicated the damage is left behind.

Wow. Just wow.
So, tell us. How much did they weigh before the went into the hospital? Did you weigh them personally?
A lot of Africans lose weight because they have shitty medical care. The US patients are all on IVs and are given blood transfusions.
You are comparing apples to oranges.
If the Ebola is detected early, they give the patient a blood transfusion. That flushes out a huge percentage of the viruses. Then they give the patients the ZMAPP or the antibodies from another survivor to block the transmission and reproduction of the remaining viruses. And they keep the patient well hydrated.
The end result is that the doctors buy time for the patient's own body to produce antibodies. A few days can make all the difference. That is why Eric Duncan is dead. Also, his blood type was different than Dr. Brantley's, so he couldn't get a blood donation and antibodies from Brantley.
So the patients we treat don't get nearly as sick as Duncan did and don't lose as much weight.
Nurse Pham was mostly in good condition and was downgraded for one day to fair condition. She was never in critical condition. So she was never physically devastated that way Duncan was.
