Its really funny how we write thinking we know everything about a virus there is no cure for it ...
We talk about incubation periods and stages in which is contagious ...

The problem with this type of virus is that the mutate and all the predictable information studied by observation is not longer valid ...

So, what if the incubation period time changes and the time when is contagious varies ...
What if a dog, rat, flea, mosquito or other type of agent become actively a transmitter bc a mutation ...

Ebola is comparable to the Black Death (Bubonic Plague) that killed 25 million people in the 14th century ... 30% to 60% of the European population and was spread by rats and fleas and merchants traveling abroad ...

What we can do?: Preventive measures until cleared, nothing else ...

Viruses can mutate, but often they do not. There are physical characteristics of this virus that I am told make it unlikely to ever become an airborne contagion (or so claimed a very well regarded virologist in dinner conversation about two weeks ago). It may mutate in other ways, but airborne contagion is not suspected to be one of those mutations.

Ebola is also very different from the plague. Plague is bacterial. It can be transmitted through the air. It is not as disabling in the early period of contagiousness. Likewise, it is carried by parasites that move independently of human victims. Finally, it is less deadly, therefore is transmitted more effectively. Entirely different epidemiological vectors and factors.

Thats exactly the point TTH, the viruses mutate to stronger strains becoming more dangerous and resistant to treatments ...
Sometimes they don't, but sooner or later they find a way to do it ...

If there is a 50% chance that it may occur, i don't want to take the risk ... Maybe thats the reason why hospitals are training their staff on the use if the hazmat suits as we speak ...

Mutations have the strange ability to shame the best scientists finding new ways to survive and expand ...

Now about the black death, everyone knows it is bacterial ... I was just making a comparison on how the Ebola in our days and with our lack of treatment could be as destructive as the Septicemic Plague or the Bubonic Plague back in the 14th century ...

I wonder how restricted the press has been from releasing ALL the truth ...

This is, I think, a rather dumbed down version of what I was told by an acquaintance who is a very well regarded virologist over a long dinner (six courses and thirteen wines). It was a wide ranging discussion with a couple of clinicians (none in infectious disease, one in internal medicine), a couple of lawyers, spouses, etc. Bottom line from the virologist is that there are good reasons Ebola isn't likely to mutate in a way that it become transmissible via airborne means.

http://www.scientificamerican.com/ar...l-go-airborne/

There's also some detailed technical shit about nucleotide substitution and recombination of segments and some third method that Ebola can't do. The docs seemed to have some vague understanding of this, but I couldn't follow that part of the discussion.

Adding a little about the relationship between the Bubonic Plague and Ebola, read this interesting article where some believe the Black Dead was some sort of Ebola like Virus ...

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=117310

What worries me is that experts just have a "vague understanding" and "most likely" wont mutate ... but what if

Again while its contained and found a cure if any (Like with HIV or HSV) we have to be aware and take the necessary safety measures at all levels starting with the government regulating travel abroad and quarantining infected families for 40 years as the article mentions, and ourselves adopting additional sanitary measures ...

Interesting article to the point that the proper steps to control this problem may not be happening.

http://m.naturalnews.com/news/047119...nup_crews.html

Whether or not this virus acts like the plague, mutates to avoid traditional immunological responses or a virologist who has had 13 flights of wine during dinner may have made some errors or been misinterpreted, if the government's response is as slipshod as documented here, it WILL spread.

our Liberian Guest is now downgraded back to critical, from serious condition... not to be a doomsdayer, but I think he will expire next week..

thinking about the total cost of his visit.. sanitation, hospitalization, hasmat crews, the market rental value of the quarters where his family is now housed...

and people bitch about the cost of Obamacare... our State decided to reject $100 billion in Federal money, because Obamacare is too expensive.. and don't get me started on the money we are spending to house/support the wave of "Border Guests" over the past several months.. meanwhile, Rick Perry would have us believe he is going to bill the Federal Government for the cost..

Obama does not care about us. Yes, if he can't keep the White House safe, he is not going to worry about us or any of our borders.

There is terrorism and terrorists here in the Dallas metro area. It is just a matter time before an event occurs.
Look at OKC. Our Government says that the beheading in OKC is workplace violence. But, why are beheadings in the Middle East consider terrorism?

I believe Dallas is listed as one of the probable top 10 cities in America to be attacked.
We aren't safe.

Hahaha come on man, listen to yourself. You sound like a fear monger. The beheading in OK, is workplace related because for it to be considered terrorism, the individual would have had to be in contact with a terrorist group. Even if you want to say he did this alone because he wanted to convert people to Islam, the linking factor that occured before his madness, was that he was fired. If he wasnt fired, he probably would not have behaved the way he did. That case is more likely workplace violence at its extreme with a religious madman drunk on a mad religion. Also can you say an Insanity defense....

And The govt may be incompetent but saying that the president of the US doesnt care about its citizens, is so out there that it is laughable.

You may be right, Macbeth.

But, according to the FBI, "Domestic terrorism" means activities with the following three characteristics:

Involve acts dangerous to human life that violate federal or state law;
Appear intended
(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;
(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or
(iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination. or kidnapping; and
Occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S.

We don't know yet, all of the suspect's alleged ties, if any, to any terrorist group. So you may be correct. Just because he is an American doesn't mean he has not had any ties to a terrorist or terrorist group. If he does have ties to a terrorist group, then all the above could reply.

Many Islamic terrorists are using beheadings as a way to terrorize others. No doubt part of the explanation is that beheadings tend to draw more attention than suicide bombings and exploding cars. Deadly though they are, car bombs and shootings have lost much of their shock value in Western eyes. It takes an unusually high death toll for a bombing to attract as much media attention as the decapitation of a single hostage by an English-speaking Islamist wielding a knife.

Terrorists crave attention, more now in the digital age, perhaps, than ever before. Islamic State and other jihadist groups have many ways to commit mass murder. But for generating a spectacle that will be noticed — and shuddered at — the world over, sawing off the head of an American is hard to beat.

There is Muslim theology and history, and a mandate going back to the Koran. In a passage at Sura 47:4: “When you meet the unbelievers, smite their necks.” For centuries, Islamic scholars have interpreted this verse literally.

Okay, I'll stop and quit getting off topic

If no chance to catch it unless one has direct contact with the body fluid, seems like overkill!
Clay also drove the family to the remote home where they will be staying in his own personal car. And wore his clothes home to see his family. He's the one stand up guy in this situation.
