Open your eyes. Forget the banana republics. Let's focus on the gun homicide rates among the major industrialized countries: (per 100,000 population in one year)

United States 3.60

3.6 per 100,000 is better than I thought it would be considering there's an estimated 300 million guns in this country. And mass shootings while tragic are fairly rare. No legislation regarding guns will change that. America has a serious preoccupation with violence. The media can't report enough of it and we flock to the movies to watch it. Our culture has to find a way to be less violence oriented. Making more laws won't likely do it.

Homicide is homicide you can't get a blind lib to understand that UK homicide is higher per 100000 than the US is its been going up ever since the law abiding citizens were outlawed from defending themselves people in that country go to prison for defending themselves from criminals if that what you want here you can go there if its so much better I have an idea how about we let the states decide the way the founders intended how about that or is that to resonable for you

Not just America, dude, but I wouldn't call it a preoccupation.

Our culture has to find a way to be less violence oriented.
Many people do not even teach children what media is. It is our home values and education that needs looked at, not the media.Hell, many people sugarcoat everything unless it hits their front doorstep.

Considering a lot of people at this board (and life in general) consider me to be an emotional and or sensitive person, I am very happy that I am able to bring to my family some insight of how our legacy will be.

I haven't been able to give them much else aside for how to be a good human being. How to be thoughtful, grateful etc, Survival skills, etc etc This is something I will help guide them with until the day I die. I'm committed to it.

We could go communist and have ourselves shielded from depravity..

OR we can teach the children real life. What's that country song Life Ain't Always Beautiful, (but it's a beautiful ride...)

Take for example a home economics program at school. What did you learn?

How to tie a tie? How to iron? How to make due with what you have to create a great meal? How to balance a checkbook? How to budget your bills? How to change a diaper? What a w2 is? Better yet how about a W4? What do you wear to a factory interview versus a restaurant interview versus a bank interview?

Home Ec. teaches them to make chocolate chip cookies because that is easier than teaching them real life stuff.

People do not teach their children sometimes, and it isn't getting taught at school.

The laws at least help to put away people who are violent.

People with this type of attitude give more "firepower" to the gun control lobby. PLEASE don't chime in any longer, you are not helping anyone. Quite frankly, you are just giving Texas a bad name.

The person who wants to committ a mass killing like Newtown or columbine is going to find a way to do it whether the access to high capacity firearms or not. The can make a bomb like Mcveigh did or figure some other way to inflict their mayhem. The vast majority of gun violence is due to the PT trade. Legalizing such substances would greatly reduce the amount of gun violence. It amazes me that anyone who is serious about reducing gun violence isn't considering this.

The facts don't lie, more restrictive gun laws lead to less gun related homocide. I guess the other industrialized countries aren't too worried about their governments becoming tyrannical. Or maybe they realize, That you're probably a million times more likely to kill a loved one with a gun in your house than you are to stop a tyrannical government. Also, if you look, these other industrialized counties have more sensible PT laws which are the major driver of violence in the US.
