Any other minority, a misspoken word doesn’t end your career.
I listen to rap music every day. Still, I could say Negro League 1 million times and it would never slip out because I literally never use that word. Furthermore, he didn't say it with the a at the end like in rap music. It was the hard r. He's comfortable with saying it.

Your assumption is Ridiculous! Thank you for making my point that it’s not a bad idea to not hire black people.

No - it is a legitimate situation that happens all the time in hiring situations. There is some form, whether it be subconscious or overt discrimination in most hiring decisions.

Exactly. It was a one off incident where he misspoke. If he had a history of this, that would be different. But you are right, anyone other than a white male does this, it doesn't end their career

While he certainly didn't intend to say it on air, because he knows the consequences of that, he would not have said it unless he says it in his personal life.

You think this white dude getting fired for dropping an n word on live TV somehow justifies that immoral and illegal behavior which the United States of America decided was wrong almost 50 years ago, and that the people of Pennsylvania decided was wrong almost 60 years ago? Do you ever use that word?

No I don’t use that word. But I won’t purposely put myself in a position that one mistake will cost me my business. Woke America has consequences. Sure it can go ahead and ruin people’s lives for making a mistake, but there are consequences for that.

Charley, if you're that risk averse shut down now or sell to someone else. You're always one mistake away from losing everything. That comes with owning a business.

You signed up for it, but you're running away from it and burying your head in the sand.

This isn't a risk mitigation strategy. Go be someone else's employee who can manage the risks and do the job.

No I’m good but thanks for the concern.

Couple questions for you: Do you think a 20 year broadcasting veteran should be fired over a mispronounced Negro and ended up saying the N-word (which I certainly understand is offensive) or do you think a sanction of some type would be more appropriate?

Also, do you find a “whip Westinghouse” banner made by high school cheerleaders “unacceptable”?

1. Termination is a sanction. I think you mean would another type of disciplinary action have been more appropriate. Correct?

If so, then I would weigh the infraction against the individual facts and circumstances, employment history, disciplinary record, policy, past practices and the harm. I wouldn't have blinked an eye at recommending suspension at the minimum. Those other factors would impact the "up to and including termination."

2. Show me the banner and the context. Whip Westinghouse with a whip on it is approaching a line, but may be innocuous divorced of context.

Displayed with along with a "Southern State of Mind" banner on a board with a poster saying "We Run This State" and the opposing school happens to be predominantly AA?

Assuming there's no actual animus it's about on par with the level of stupidity one might have in using black and white wristbands to funnel people into two lines for a school event and setting up signs that say "Black Entrance Only" and "White Entrance Only"

______________

People make mistakes. They don't need to be canceled over a mistake. But that also doesn't mean there's no punishment or pain involved in seeking atonement and forgiveness.

Southern Columbia has used the same “southern state of mind” banner many times” and also displayed “whip Whyoming” prior. Same sign, different school. None of these were ever a problem. It’s ridiculous.
It gets exhausting trying to figure out what doesn’t insult woke African Americans and therefore the choice many, many whites do is avoid getting caught up in it by staying clear.

I’ve gotta agree. My bff in the service and godfather to a couple of my kids is a black guy. The banter we tossed around every day would likely get me thrown in a prison if the wrong civilian was listening. Thin skinned doesn’t begin to describe what’s happened to society, a white guy can’t even crack a joke. I just avoid the situations now, one gets way to used to dealing with people with an actual sense of humor who hit back instead of crying to HR.

I agree as well. When hiring you are looking for the best fit. The best fit may or may not be the best qualified. There are a host of other factors at play these days. You do have to factor risk management into it

Like the example I tossed out. Bam said he may choose the fat ugly 62 year old because he wouldn’t want a sexual harassment case to deal with from the 28yr old hottie. That is a form of risk management. And quite frankly, it is also discrimination against the hot chick.

I would be just the opposite - hiring the 28 year old hottie because she would be more pleasant to deal with and I would be discriminating against the fat ugly chick because she was fat and ugly

Which goes to my point, everyone discriminates in some form or fashion in every hiring decision whether one admits it or not. You make the decision that is best for you
