Every single democrat in the Senate voted not guilty on both counts brought before them. Every single one! Now that is a partisan vote and nothing was going to make them do the right thing. Now the republicans voted 45 on the perjury charge (which really is a crime and we all saw him do it) and 50 on the obstruction charge. So it looks like that only the GOP had an open mind when it came to the trial and not the dems.
FYI, the GOP won the next election. Wasn't this payback for Johnson since Nixon was never impeached?
Also, being found guilty does not require removal from office. That is the penalty portion. It is understood that if you find a president guilty of some crime then he probably will have to be removed but it is not automatic. The senate will have to figure out what to use as a penalty if there is a conviction.
