Based on the multiple comments about large noses, I'm guessing W isn't a big fan of Jews.

Pearl Jam came out when I was in HS. So were you two in your 50s at that time?

I actually started in 89 grad in 93. When did you start Booth 1929? I guess you really remember the great depression.

No. I was the last lottery but there was not a draft to go with it. 73 was the last actual draft.

My brother got #5 in 68. He enlisted in the AF to keep from being drafted by the Army and got out on a medical discharge 6 weeks after he went in.

I would have gotten a deferment anyways because I was going to a university. I still partied my way out of school and ended up enlisting in Jan of 75. No American troops were still in Viet Nam (still some SFs).

Still wasn't right in my head. I signed up for jump school and went through physically demanding training in southern Georgia, in July. Went to Ft. Bragg afterwards. The Army truly made a man out of me. Plus it taught me how to get up every day for work.

Ended up at Ft. Hood, met a girl in Austin, and the rest is history.

3 months after I moved in with the girl, she dumped me. I had joined the National Guard so I would be a resident and was going back to school. Wait a minute. That was residency for tuition, not for admissions. I was from out of state and wasn't in the top 10% of my class. No school for you! I had quit my job and they had filled it.

In a 21 day span of time, I lost my girl, my place to live, my job, found out I couldn't get into school, and enlisted in a military organization that wouldn't feed me or house me.

Think of Bill Murray in "Stripes" without the option of joining the Army.

Because the "Manly Code" said I couldn't crawl back to Minnesota for at least a year after I decided to move here, I stayed.

And found a job, went to electronics school, found many other chicks (never moved in with another one, I moved them in with me. I even got my house in my divorce.) and life has been good these last 33 years.

My number was 71. They took up to number 95 that year. Year before, my number was 306. Year after 215. Then they stopped drafting, though the lottery continued.

I completed school early -- what was I thinking -- and got the call!

You born in 53? 55 was good. Just old enough to dodge the repub bullet for medicare.

Looks like I may be going to Israel in a couple of weeks for work. A place called Kiryat Gat. @ 20 miles due west of Jerusalem and 10 miles NE of the Gaza Strip.

Wouldn't that be ironic (which irony usually is) if I ate the big one while serving both a greedy corporation and a company that has sent half it's jobs overseas. Missed Viet Nam and now I'm going to a front without a rifle

I plan on having a good time.

Shalom be-atches!

FWIW, the comments you made about big noses etc. could certainly have been perceived as anti-Semitic and if that wasn't your intention then the decent thing to do would be to apologize for any offense you may have caused.

I'm not Jewish but a lot of people in my life that I love and respect are and if they had read that(not that they are in the habit of reading SHMB) it would be awful for their feelings to be hurt unintentionally.

I got out of the Army a couple of years prior to you enlisting. I did both OCS and jump school in Southern Georgia and a 2+ year stint at Bragg (82nd). Sandwiched in between was a 12 month, all expense paid tour in Vietnam (173rd). Like you, the entire military experience definately made a man out of me! I would not trade those 4 years for any experience of my lifetime. Even though I considered making a career of the military, hindsight tells me that I made the correct decision!

Airborne!
