I had my income tax check in the bank, direct deposit filed electronically within 3 weeks of filing.

Very little is checked in detail when you first file. At some point in time after that, suspicious information on the filing will be looked at in detail. Some people with really questionable information will be audited, approximately .5%. I was once told that if you aren't audited by August, you are safe. I have been audited once in my lifetime and it was many months after filing.

Since almost all of us file electronically, I wonder how easy it is to bring together all the relevant taxpayer information. I used to send all of it in to the IRS by mail.

No, you would get the $1200/$2400, plus the extra for children provided you were under the Adjusted gross income amounts and then a sliding scale for every $5 above that.

I have read they are treating it as an advance of a tax credit they will provide on the 2020 tax return, but are estimating it based on either your 2019 return if filed, or your 2018 if you haven't filed your 2019 return.

Back child support or potentially other IRS back obligations are so far the only things I've heard that could reduce or hold it if you filed either 2018 or 2019.

I don't think so. It was pretty clear about nearly all federal/credit card/etc. debt not being counted against you for the stimulus.

And while it didn't include student debt forgiveness like AOC/Pelosi/Schumer/etc. wanted, it did defer payments until something like September.

makes sense, I can't imagine Democrats going along, if student loans were included.. if they get the back tax owers, plus child support, that's a good start.

They did though as far as I can tell freeze out working college students who also get claimed by their parents. Those students will not get a check nor will their parents get an extra benefit as it's only for children under 17.
