Austin, I am a conservative. I have been a conservative for over 50 years. You are no conservative.

Let us be clear, JD is a conservative in name only.

He wants to expand much of the government he approves of. In other words he wants to tax the fuc out of you to pay for his pet projects.

I have seen only one or two true conservative that post on here that are Tea Nuts. Jd is not one of them.

Yes, our "homo" giggling, "fuc" speller and "poop" joker is qualified to tell each of us what our political leanings truly are. Pardon me if I'm not impressed.

Just because you can not tell what political leaning you are does not make me blind.

If I caught you, JD, jb and Whirly blowing each other , you'd say that I was not qualified to call you gay.

JD and his homo crew fancy themselves as true conservative, as does Paul Ryan. Paul Ryan a man ( The man who JD supports and thinks a true conservative too) who voted for the war, Bush's unfunded Rx drug give a way to seniors, the Bank and Auto bail outs.....I could go on and on.

Bottom line isGOG, if you do not want to be described as gay, take the God Damn dick out of ypour mouth. Now there is nothing wrong with being gay, it is the liar part I am exposing. JD is not a conservative. He is a liar if he says so and ignorant as to what a true conservative is if he thinks so.

You are way more conservative than that Motely bunch.

Austin says he thinks Noam Chomsky is a genius and he apparently hates Ayn Rand; I think that definitely proves he's not a conservative. I suppose he thinks these two facts can be reconciled with a him being conservative; I don't. A conservative that likes Chomsky is like a Christian that likes Satan.

You are missing the point; Gage says, and I agree, the Progressives were so successful in the mid 20th century because the movement had a unifying core of inspirational philosphy; they no longer have that apparently. So says Marty Peretz and others......the movement has become a coalition of small interest groups that drive agendas. Your legislative achievements have been fewer; and when you do have them they tend to be at the extremes. With lower levels of public support. Take ObamacareTax....about 71% of Americans think it is an abomination and overreach.

Another epic over-reach by the lefties (driven by single issue activists) was Tax and Trade. There are many other examples.

Why do you think Obama is now governing by executive fiats ? Because he is dogmatic; not a concensus builder which the earlier generation of Progressive leaders were.

Which is why Obama will likely be a one term President - he overreached in his quest to transform us into his Progressive utopia.....he didn't try to bring along the American public.

They reformed courts and prisons, and brought about voting rights and upheld constitutional liberties such as the right of citizens not to incriminate themselves while in custody.

The progressives MADE THE MIDDLE CLASS.

They didn't need some single "philosopher" to point the way because they were simply taking on issues one at a time....pragmatically.

And I call myself today a conservative btw....

My heros are Eisenhower and Dewey, not some snot-nosed moron like Ryan.

I do like Romney though...quit a lot like Eisenhower and Ryan is like Nixon.

Because generally, liberals and progressives are more intelligent than you dimwitted backslapping conservatives, and we like to think for ourselves rather than allow megalomaniacal millionaire entertainers like Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity tell us what our beliefs are, or should be?

Because we don't think Ayn Rand is a "hero?" Because some of us think that we have a social obligation to our communities, cities, states, country and fellow citizens? Unlike you manipulative, smug, greedy, narcissistic douchebags who think the characters and philosophy of Ayn Rand are models to emulate?

I dunno, I could think of more....but, those are some of the reasons.

Carry on.
the false feel-goodism of liberalism allows them to think they are more intelligent than others. its just another piece of the we are better, smarter and superior to the riff raff and we know best club.

one huge false element these superior beings cling to as they laugh up their sleeves at hard working people who make the country run is the conflation of community with government.

individualism is built on liberty. individualism sees each person as having worth in and of themselves. it places the burden of community on the individual. it makes each person responsible for their needy neighbor and places decision making at the most informed level. it allows community chests, churches, clubs and neighbors to make informed decisions. liberalism sees not the individual but some group and the individual doesnt have true worth outside the group.

communitarianism is lessened by government. government forces support. it removes the individual from the knowledge and the burden of community. it lessens the knowledge base of who the needy is. it creates fraud and waste and thereby a juandiced view of the "needy" is developed in people. the late 20th century saw a marked decline in community and community organizations. much like the family unit has been harmed and destroyed by government becoming the daddy, so has community been harmed.

the closer aid is to the local level the more the truly needy are helped.

not only has community been harmed by goverment but likewise so has industry and self reliance and the work ethic and individual accomplishment and the feeling of self worth these things engender.

those who are the "smug" are fully revealed in this mans post:
"Because we are not stupid sheep" and "liberals and progressives are more intelligent" .

some people who ascribe to liberalism do have, however misguided,a concern for others. they just refuse to understand that the greatest concern is shown and the greatest outcome for good is found in conservatism.

most people however, it seems to me, vote democrat for some personal benefit. some labor union reason, or government worker or obama is going to pay my mortgage reason. they use community as a cover. they use phrases like for the children or education or some other cover that ultimately is just an excuse for more individual benefit, so their retirement and insurance and time off is increased and protected. lets raise taxes so that we can continue in our sloth and excess. even the wealthy vote for personal benefit, to keep the poor at bay, to look good in front of others, to show concern as we sip our latte's, to keep getting good parts in movies. democrats use the rubric of government for personal benefit while conservatives rely elsewhere.
