not saying he is bam but preseason is preseason. i think we can agree its not the same
and yes i agree wilson isnt the future, now could he be damn good for another few years? certainly. but he is the starter this year year no matter how good fields looks in preseason injury aside obviously
i would hope they throw fields in there each game for at least 5 or 6 plays to get a feel for how he is doing. if they dont, its going to be a real gamble to possibly throw out a big contract to him next year
alot of unanswered questions........it will be interesting

You wanna bet Mr Gristle? I can post many articles and listened to many sports talk shows that say Fields has a real shot at starting. But Tomlin fucked up the last QB “competition”. He kept the best QB on the bench for two years.

Bet what? That Wilson injured his calf?
You're having that argument with Chizzy

Is Tomlin capable of picking the best QB? Rudolph turned out to be the best QB on the roster but he kept him on the bench until he didn’t have a choice. Yeah, Wilson is a vet with a long track record. This isn’t the preseason. It’s camp. Practice. And Fields has been getting snaps with the starters and Wilson isn’t. That matters.

I guess his PRP treatments aren’t working. You can’t win a starting job on the bench. Unless you’re Ben.

Last thought about Fields starting. He probably suits what Arthur Smith wants from his QB. With the Titans, Smith used Tannehill in the running game. They made it to the AFC championship game. Fields is far more explosive as a runner than Tannehill. He also has a better arm to throw over the middle and deep than Wilson. Tomlin ultimately makes that decision. History tells us he’ll play it safe and prolly go with Wilson. But it will be a short leash.

Agreed. Russell will be QB1 until he loses the job, and he won't be losing it in camp.

Why? He’s been dumped by two teams in the last 4yrs. Denver paid him 40 million to go away. Nobody wanted him so he signed with the Steelers for the league minimum. At the time, they didn’t have a QB on the roster. Not so sure about him being “Da Man”. He has to earn it. So far, he hasn’t.

Why? Because Tomlin named him QB1, if healthy. An injured calf is the only reason he's not in there right now. This isn't complicated.

And Kenny was QB1, got injured, got healthy and didn’t start again. Tomlin had more invested in Kenny than Wilson. It really isn’t complicated. The best player should play. Fields is making that decision tougher.

Because Kenny had two years of shitty QB play under his belt by that point. Enough was finally enough. Wilson hasn't even played a game for the Steelers yet. If healthy, he's QB1. Period.

Tomlin said Wilson was in the pole position at the start of camp. Wilson hasn’t been great over the last 4yrs. He’s 36 and clearly isn’t the future. Maybe he will start. I don’t think it’s a slam dunk. I think it’s an honest competition. Fields is certainly impressing his coaches and teammates. That’s a fact.
