The more I thought about this and Senfronia, the more I realized what they want to do-Put teeth against the users of human trafficking sites, more teeth than today. SenFROnia has been trying to battle human trafficking for years if you look at the TX bills submitted.
While that's potentially laudable there's so many scenarios, like any poorly written law, that mean poor semi-innocent guys will get the short end of the stick. Lets say you hit a certain seedy bar that was busted on 610E for human trafficking about 10 yrs. ago (some will know what I'm talking about). Well as a visitor you know what they have and if it smells fishy...that guy knew that these were girls working in a shack and knew the bargain pussy was b/c of that situation. I don't give him much credence if he gets added charges or elevated charges.
However, if you're from out of town and ask a buddy where's the best spot, and he sends you to the same bar, 1st time there and you realize it's sketchy do you deserve a felony?
I think that us going to a spa will never have a problem. Today Mr. law doesn't visit a number of places, with more paperwork and harder legal barriers do you think he'll suddenly visit more spas or bust more Johns? Potentially but unlikely too.
TL;DR-
Stay away from the north side of town, that's Fro's district
Don't visit obviously sketchy / trafficked places.
You'll probably be fine.

I haven't done a line/word-for-word examination of the "new" law, but my cursory look tells me that all that's changed is the increased penalty. Raising the stakes may serve to be an effective deterrent even if there is not an increasing of the convictions. Putting a felony on someone's page can create a lot of immediate and future obstacles.
An issue now will be ... is the provider earning freedom with the appointment.

^^^Do you think there’s actually anyone here who thinks a felony charge would NOT be a bad thing? LOL

Even with a new law in place Houston is such a big city HPD cannot dedicate a full division/unit to consistently investigate and bust AMPs or providers. They will still have the occasional bust like they do now but it will stay the same. I'm not worried at all. They can barely keep up with traffic stops. The city has outgrown all emergency resources.

"HPD"? "big city"?
The agencies engaging in overseeing SOBs sop up on the Federal grant funding, which supplements the deficiencies in their resources created by the "defunding" and/or "shifting" of taxpayers' money to other activities .... as long as they continue to submit reports of their "investigation" and "raids" the "gravy train" will continue to arrive with equipment and personnel supplements.
FYI... customarily such social/political activities are conducted with "task forces" that depend on mutual assistance agreements among agencies.
Just keep wearing a mask ... one that covers well ...
.... and begin to cultivate more independent and discrete opportunities....with less publicity.
Oh ... rely upon factual information rather than anecdotal dreamer accounts of activities.

This is enough to make me retire completely. Not worth risking a felony charge.

Several years ago I mentioned several times of having lunch at a rustic, but popular eatery, out on 1960 not too far from 249 ...( I noticed it's closed since the ParaNaturalPandemicSpread ) ...
at the table next to where I was sitting was a uniformed deputy with a laptop open showing a young lady "the ropes" and explaining to her the "lingo" of the business and the website did look familiar ... he was "TRAINING" her on how to respond to THE QUESTIONS and CONVERSATION with anticipated guests ...
.. she was Hispanic and appeared "spa qualified" ...
.. a couple of tables away were 5 "ninja" clad officers having lunch also ... quietly. I identified them as the "jump out" crew!
As for the "nay-sayers" and "business as usual" crowd ...
... look up Pct4's "administrative" enforcement activity log.
You will notice the names of most, if not all, of the locations posted in reviews on this site. Added to that is the "administrative/business" activities of the Harris County Attorney Office (Not the DA) with respect to licensing and registration of businesses.
Has anyone ever wondered why "dancers" have nondisclosure of stage/real names in reviews?
Those of you who search and disclose the names of other hobbyists and providers are contributing to the risks all have in their personal and recreational activities ... not to mention professions, jobs, and legitimate relationships ... marriage and otherwise.

Just read what others are submitting, pickuptruckdrivingbeardwearing emoljiuserrealmanBowser.
I have a friend who was arrested in a sex sting operation. After $6,000 in attorney fees, parking fees in downtown, bail money, gas to go to downtown and back, money missed from not being at work, and a lot of damage to his marriage, the case was dismissed.

Old saying; "You might beat the rap, but you ain't beating the ride"
Unfortunately our justice system sees fit to beat the hell out of you even if they don't have enough evidence of a crime against you. Those in power don't care, not their money, just a game. Suck you dry, embarrass you in front of your friends, family, coworkers, etc. then toss the charges they know they can't support to keep their numbers up.

Unfortunately, these are the same ass-wipes who feel it's ok for any dipshit to carry a gun without training or permits but they'll put their pussyfoot down when it comes to adults exchanging fees for services provided.

No upside for a politician to go against this. Look at the roll call vote. 1 not vote in the house. Everyone else who was there in both chambers voted for it.
