Laurentius nailed it with his answer.

You are right, ultimately I don't really have much control over what is written or not written in a review. I do my homework when it comes to screening and luckily have seen a great group of guys. For the most part the men that do contact me either don't write reviews or have never heard of reviews. Things have happened on dates that I ask not to be mentioned because in all likelihood it won't happen with another person. If a gentleman does have a bad time and I deserve a bad review, it's only fair that I receive one.

Thanks Laurentius for taking the time to explain things.

I can't imagine that ever happening.

After further reflection . . . OK, you've convinced me. I guess I'm not really sure if reviews (that is, their content, not the mere fact of their existence) are useful to me.

I've thought in the past that they can provide insights into the lady's personality, intelligence, attitude, etc. as well as the ambience and atmosphere of the incall. Sure, I may be able to get insights about that from a website, an add, or banter on a P4P board, but it's always nice to get a third party's opinion based on meeting her in person. Some ladies are not the same in person as they appear electronically.

But few reviews manage to do that effectively.

And, while a graphic recitation of sex acts is not very useful -- unless there is some commonly available but not available with her, or the reader is interested for something beyond the items commonly available -- I've thought in the past that a discussion can provide insights into, for want of a better phrase, her sexual style. Is she shy and passive, or aggressive and take-charge? Is she soft, slow, and sensual, or more "give it to me hard, baby"? Does she like to chat for awhile, or rip your clothes off as you enter the door?

But reviews probably are colored too much by the reviewer's style, to the point that they don't necessarily reflect the subtleties and nuances of what really happened. Consider them the sexual version of Rashomon.

Even if I maintain that naive belief of what reviews could be . . . I don't act in accordance with that belief. I haven't been looking for new ladyfriends recently anyway. But my Premium Access here, VIP status on TER, etc. have lapsed and I'm not motivated to pay (or review) to get them back. So I'll retract my previous statements; evidently, reviews really aren't useful/necessary, at least for me. It's very difficult to tell whether I will really "click" with a given lady without having read reviews, but reading reviews doesn't necessarily improve the odds. I take back all that stuff I've said before.

But, since I'm not the only guy out there, if a lady I see asks for a review, I'll still write one. Not otherwise. Assuming that it's a positive experience (and in recent years, they virtually all have been), it should be her choice. What about other P4P clients? They're entitled to information about bad service, but if she's great, I don't feel an obligation to share the information with other guys contrary to her (presumed) wishes. that's been my policy for a few years now.

I say up or down votes or a ***** rating system would suffice.

Details are only for the voyeurs among us. You pay and then they play.

I agree. Ratings would be sufficient.

The problem with this is review fraud. There are three common types. A guy who writes a review of someone he has never seen to get free access to a review site, someone writing a review (or having someone else write the review) for herself, and someone deliberately writing bad reviews as a form of vengeance in order to hurt the provider for some reason.

A lot of fraudulent reviews are removed on the strength of problems in the details. The guy claims to have seen her at location X when she was at Y, claims she was clean-shaven when she has a landing strip, etc etc.

Without the details, there would be no way of tracking down fraudulent reviews.

So while I totally agree with you that ratings would be sufficient and no details are needed to make a decision; the details are needed to prevent various sorts of fraud.

I preface this my saying I'm not a big review person, but...

I think too much importance is given to any one (or two) reviews by both sides. You have to remember these are anonymous accounts made on the internet.

When I'm looking Urbanspoon or Yelp to find a place to eat I don't get too bent out of shape about reviews that are outliers one way or another. Likewise I don't think a well-regarded eatery goes on a crusade against an unflattering reviewer (even if factually inaccurate) as so many ladies on here seem to do. Let it go....we take it with a grain of salt anyway.

Actually I appreciate always learning new words, terms, and phrases to add to my vocabulary. Many thanks!

I feel that way just about everytime I read a thread in D&T. Not to mention uncouth and ill-mannered. I feel like the poor cousin from the sticks come to visit the rich relatives in the big city, or the high-school dropout visiting Harvard. Y'all are (unintentionally, I'm sure) intimidating as hell. But I'll survive and maybe some of this place will rub off on me.

Look at the bright side. If you were still whacking off instead of seeing the ladies, you would be getting dumber.

I play primarily in the sugar daddy/sugar baby world these days, but even when I decide to shop for the occasional varietal experience I don't rely on reviews. I pretty much stopped reading them years ago after realizing there was so much subjectivity and so many YMMV factors.

If someone's profile, pics, and posting history strike my fancy, I'll just give it a shot without checking to see if she has been reviewed.

Additionally, it seems to me that the men's private area is a vastly better source of actionable intelligence. By keeping up with the discussions there, one can easily get a pretty good idea of who's hot and who's not. I have little interest in reading a long, detailed blow-by-blow description of someone else's experience. A yay or nay from a gentleman with tastes similar to my own is good enough for me.

I don't have access to the private area, but I guess just looking at who has reviewed (and recommended) a lady without actually reading the review could serve the same function.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about 99.6% of the guys here, so I have no clue whether someone is "a gentleman with tastes similar to my own."
