hail the courtesans!
We all dislike micro-mannerisms and fake terms. I agree with not hiding behind fake words . IT is not the word but the attitude and character that counts. But it gets tiring to prove this again and again ...
At the same time I find we lack enough terms and nuances to express ourselves adequately with our intentions. Using Hooker or similar terms with the baggage associated is detracting from a more nuanced direction in our communication, for example when I feel that I would like to express a positive, maybe respectful, somewhat encouraging aspect, using a term that can be interpreted in deprecating or derogatory way, will impede on what I want to convey. Lately everybody adds , LOL, Just saying, Just kidding, lmao, etc. to compensate for the lack of nuances in the language we use in short electronic text messages. The language skills are devolving ...and manners with them.
We often use metaphors that are not always easy to understand, and seem too convoluted.
Suggestion:
By the way , I really love the term "courtesan", it has a historic , and frivolous flavor. It would be really fun to adopt it widely on ECCIE. LOL.
... and now, I should go and see the Tudors rerun now, and decipher Shakespeare's writing as a punishment for this post ...

What's in a name?
Pondscum?
No sweetie, I for one do not feel that way. I appreciate the services you ladies provide us underserved guys. We are underserved for a plethora of reasons (single, widower, disability of spouse to participate in sex, unwillingness of spouse to participate in sex, etc...)
As with anything in life, there are those who are not as well intentioned than others with mean spirited behavior--those women would be skewed to the scummy side. But truly, I have come across very few ladies in the hobby like that.
The ladies on this and other boards have been fun and treated me well. After all, let's be real, there is a business transaction going on here. I get it. But friendships do blossom and I wished all my faves a Happy New Year last night. Not one did not return a nice text message wishing me the same. That's as far as that will go and that's appropriate.
They are not pondscum.

Well, as I've mentioned before, I'm planning my Swan Song.
And although I'm involved with sex worker rights (join Dallas SWOP! Guys, too!), it's a never ending battle. Doubt anything will be won.
I actually appreciate topics such as this one. Because when it all comes down to it, MOST men (people, world) consider us pond scum, at best. And plenty would think that's an insult to the slime on the water.
So there we have it.
However, I'll keep trying to elevate our female huddled masses who most are honorable, and just trying to eek out a living to support family, etc. I know there is a huge dark side to this ... but right now, this morning, there is a more Pollyanna'ish feeling going on with me.
Hope your holidays were happy, you round heeled woman, you!!! Strumpet! Trollop! All these damn sporting ladies!!!
Warmly,
Elisabeth

Sorry, I am too old school, I have to confess... I do not get the hair pulling, nor other pain causing actions.... Not on me nor on the partner... ( or should I use the term Courtesan ? )
I hope I will not be asked to do it 'cause it'll make me loose my "momentum".Even "dirty talking" is hard and inhibiting. Is there something not OK with me...? Should I be worried? lol.
I am probably in a minority of "unsophisticated hobbyists", but I like it that way....
Now Midgets, ... that is a different story ....

Idioms: lady of easy virtue, lady of pleasure, lady of the night.
Please add to this if you know of others, We can rank them by offensiveness.
Showcase name followed by terms fitting, followed by explanation
"ElisabethWhispers?" should be called "sex worker' because she prefers that term over most others. She portrays herself as a girlie girl, with tasteful ads and relevant posts both here and elsewhere. She would rather hear the word "companion" when referring to her occupation because it does not mean she is a socially repulsive woman who fucks strangers for money.
.
I'd be willing to bet when asked this question in a social setting 99.44% of all who engage in P4P would even admit to being a "companion" or worse
“What do you do?” she asked me, expecting nothing shocking, I’m sure.
“I’m a whore,” I replied matter-of-factly.
“Excuse me?” the lady asked, clearly believing she had misunderstood.
“A whore,” I repeated. “A prostitute. A call girl. A harlot, a lady of the evening, a hooker, a strumpet, a doxy, a fille de joie. A demimondaine, a woman of questionable virtue.”
A Whore By Any Other Name…

You get referred to by who you are, how you act, what you allow, and how you carry yourself. You don't get to decide what you are called and sugar coating it is either denial, guilt, or just shameful marketing and by placing adjectives in front of it proves it even more. (ask anyone who sold Amway or A.L. Williams LOL) If you are honest with what you do for money and how it affects. what your life is then calling yourself a "hooker" is appropriate. Selling yourself as a Environmental Service Technician just makes it worse than telling people your a Janitor and it makes a bigger impact to the fact that you are ashamed of the career choices you have made. I bet a group do not refer to themselves as EST's. When you here EMT, do you know what they do? What about EST? Not so much?
I have a set of rules I follow when selecting a Hoogar. I prefer those who do not openly state that they offer over the top elicit services, show enough for me to know that her breasts can hold themselves up and that her muffin top is not overly expansive (EW shout out) and not riddled with stretch marks. I have had sessions with just about all types of providers and most body types (I prefer healthy hoogars so no dyslectic or bbw's). How each gets referred to days or weeks after the session when sometimes the word hoogar is replaces with another noun that describes them best. The "elusive poon-whore" or a "unicorn-whore" would be best described by me as a "demimondaine" as IMHO, it is the least offensive yet accurate.

You are just fine. I don't like pain either but a little tug has never hurt, if it's done with care. I'm not a natural dirty talker so I don't even try.
Midgets...hmmm. I'm 5"2..almost short enough to qualify.

So sorry Ms Foster!
Your application to qualify for the midget status was rejected on t the following grounds:
1. 5.2 too tall for a midget candidate
2. You are too flexible for a midget candidate
3. Your limbs to body ratio fail our strict criteria.
4. You are way too sexy for functioning as a adequate midget.
If you wish to appeal this decision, please reapply with the proper forms and affix a 300$ fee payable in cash or candy. Or dark chocolate. Or pinnacle juice.
Yours truly.
Midget expert , Ashi -San

Back off it's humor but it makes a point. A non-profit 501C that benefits people who don't pay taxes. Ironic huh? Anyone seen the salaries of board members??

Cum Extraction Technicians.
Kidding. They are women, we are men (well, most of us). How we all choose to earn and spend our money is up to us.
And in my job, I am often called a whore. It pays the bills.

Fille de joie ( Joy Girl),is kind of nice,
unfortunately most of terms for the oldest profession were used as demeaning terms or invective words to insult for many centuries. A few PC interpretations or softer usage will not change easily the bagage for the words nor for those associated. Anybody familiar what they use in Amsterdam for example, where the "profession" is legalized?

Even Yankee was/is a derogatory and insulting term. Point is it does not matter what the speaker meant. What matters is how/what the recipient reacts to it.

It CAN be slur....pretty much anything can. Depending on context it's used in doesn't bother me. Some things it's not what you say but how.
