that's where things get twisted. this wasn't about the calendar, not about still looking, and not about the calendar whores even. If it was, it'd be done by now, and there wouldn't be so many threads containing it.

Another segue but a topic on the bastardization of the word "courtesan" would make a good discussion. I've written about it in the past.

I NEVER use the word and never have. Nor will I. Because the word has just lost it's meaning from misuse.

I'm interested in your take on it, and others as well. I'm sure that Olivia and Daphne would have some intriguing input as well.

With the word "whore", the topic is done. I was sincerely hoping to hear some good arguments, and perhaps a revelation or two, with such lively discussions going on.

Sadly, it's just become base with some people being just thick with not trying to see the other side of things.

Again, it could be an issue with the way that language is changing but with the word "whore", it's still not a word that can be used freely and have no consequences while doing so.

Whore, and I AM one, is a negative as far as I see it. If you read the dictionary postings of the meaning of the word, it's obvious that the negativity of the word just stands out.

The meaning has more variations than someone who accepts money for sex acts. The rest of the arguments concerning the word, if one can even suggest that most of this is viable arguing, are blowing a bunch of hot hair and trying to create a path of smoke and (verbal/illusionary) mirrors where none exists.

It just "is what it is".

Prostitutes were the first people in the US to wear red lipstick and own property. And now, we're trying to change the viewpoints of the word "whore". Good luck with that.

It's going to take some time. I don't see the word "whore" as being one of empowerment, except for a few in a marginalized society, anytime soon.

Boy. I've read (and written) enough about this one word to last me a very long time!

And how many of those threads did YOU start? Just look at the poll's numbers. Seems more like it's about the self worth of a few Judas goats and whore-hating whore-mongers.

Elisabeth, I think your post was an excellent summation. No one but those in a marginalized segment of society view the word positively. There are some marketer's here and I applaud the for turning a phrase into cash flow, but beyond that - no, the word has no positive social meaning.

So........moving on to courtesan?
