In less than 48 hours, those of us interested.....Tara, perhaps....me.....maybe Chung....I don't know, maybe others; just seems like the numbers are dwindling each day, right?.....anyways, "interested" fans will kick back, have a coldy or two and take in Game Two of a schedule that on the surface appears to have all the makings of being another disappointing POS (which is approaching 20 consecutive years of such frustration....wow). I'm speaking, of course, of those happy go-lucky...."what-will-they-do-next" Cowboys of Big D.
Well, as we know, this weekend they take their style of football over to Music City, USA. Now my guess is a day after their beloved Rocky Tops receive a thorough ass-kicking at the hands of the Sooners, a lotta Titan fans are going to be pretty effin' crabby around game time. If Tony and his band of Merry Men thought the friendly confines of JerryWorld was loud last Sunday.....well, they ain't seen nothing yet. They've had this one circled on the calendar for some time and you can take that to the bank.
The Titans won their opening game convincingly on the road last Sunday...at Arrowhead, not an easy place to go into and play well for visiting teams. In the process they sacked the KC qb 4 times, intercepted him thrice while allowing the Chiefs a paltry 22 minutes of possession time. KC was a pitiful 1 for 12 on 3rd down conversions. So in all likelihood, they're going to do all they can to cookie cutter that same formula for their own fans. And if Tony pulls a repeat of last week's performance, he'll make it easy for the crowd to get into this game and make that stadium unbearable to call signals (or check out of a running play at the 2 yard line).
Dallas was a subpar 3-5 last year in road games.....and in several of them, their defense simply could not get off the field. Tennessee will be patient on offense....that's Ken Whisenhunt's brand of ball. They'll chip away, burn clock and rely on their defense and special teams to control field position; forcing you to go the distance on every possession.
Dallas, by virtue of it's head coach and new offensive coordinator (not to mention the GM/owner and his insanity) doesn't understand that kind of strategy. They get impatient early...they try to do too much too soon....don't practice basic fundamentals of game management.....and that attitude permeates the entire team. And it shows in their play.....every week.
Tennessee is a 3.5 point favorite at this writing....and I'm tempted to take the home team and give those points. I can see the Titans PK Succop (4 for 4 last week) punching a couple of field goals in the fourth to win this thing by 6 maybe more.
That said, do you really think Romo....if given a final possession of the game (down by 6)....leads the Boys down the field for a winning TD? I don't know...to me this team just doesn't look like they have the coconuts to pull off such a feat. I guess we'll see, huh?

No one can afford to buy the franchise from Jones.

Fortunately for the cowsheep, Jerry is old and dementia is already setting in. He will go full on Al Davis. The franchise is only worth what another will pay for it. Ballmer will never make a dime buying the Clippers for five times it value.

Looked as if the Dallas D had a decent first two quarters today....shutting out the Titans, 16-0, at the half..
Course, their MO has been to sh*t their britches and give up double-digit leads in the second half.
Maybe today will be different......we'll see, huh?

well.. at least I was close on the SPREAD...
the Boys controlled the game, Murray was impressive.. Romo? a lot better, obviously, but he basically threw a lot of short passes, was never challenged to do more.. maybe he's not a Homo, but he's not completely straight either
what most impressed me was the cheers that emanated for the Cowboys.. I wasn't sure a few times if I was wrong about the game being played in Nashville.. the cynic in me thinks Jerry bussed a lot of locals in, on his dime, to counter last week's deluge of San Fran fans here..
whatever, it worked today.. my 5-11 season prediction hasn't changed..

I still have them at 6/10. Romo is not the problem and never was. Put a good offensive line in front of him and rebuild the defense and he can win titles. But JJ and JG need to go or it will never happen.

WTF? Last week it seemed everyone was trying to blame his recovering back. Bullshit. A bad back won't make you throw in to triple coverage. Twice. The guy just has brain farts and makes bad decisions. I've heard everything from "overly competitive" to now the "bad back". Bullshit again. The motherfucker makes the same stupid decisions over and over again. The only time he was worth a shit as a gunslinger was when he had a fast crazy wide receiver and played sandlot style football like his hero Favre. The guy is almost good, predictably inconsistent and should have his own star in the Hall of fame for soaking an owner, indeed an entire market, for all that money and a lot of unproductive time. He's almost good enough to be a mediocre NFL quarterback. Maybe he should go to Oakland and then disappear like the other has been/never were QBs.

WTF you all know what is happening in this next season. The good news is opposition receipts are greater than home at the till. Viewing audience from DFW is down for the Boys. Jerry will get the message eventually if he keeps his head out of the Courts that is.

I highlighted my comments (prior to last week's game) to make a "temporary retraction"......I may have been wrong about Jason Garrett this season. Maybe. It simply depends as to whether he's willing to coach to this team's strength(s).
Last Sunday, Jason did an about-face (an early-game adjustment....what?!) He pulled back on the aerial game and gave the Titans a heavy dose of DeMarco Murray.
That strategy was football at it's very best....have your young but talented O-line take control. Wasn't it refreshing to see that take place? I know it was for me. I don't have to see the ball thrown 80 times to be entertained.....
Thus far, this offensive line, across the board, has graded out in the top 25% of the league.....(keep in mind Smith, Martin and Frederick are only 23 years of age each). In two games, Murray has become the leading rusher in the NFL.
That said, the Rams (this Sunday's opponent) will most likely stack 7 (or 8) in the box to slow down the Cowboys' running attack. They recall the success Murray has had in recent games against them and want no part of that anymore. They'd like to see Tony with the ball in his hands to make plays, not DeMarco.
Though the media-driven "face of the franchise" in Dallas for years has been Romo (or jerry jones; depending on how you look at it I suppose) this is an opportunity for this young O-line to make an early statement about who they are and what this team as a whole is going to become. Their "identity" can be that, as a group, they are the dominating force on the field. And no matter what you plan or attempt to do about it, you are going to fail.
If they can achieve that kind of dominance......this team (despite a qb with a gimpy back) can enjoy some success this season. And part of that success starts this Sunday against a depleted Rams team, starting their 3rd string qb.

Well, I am pretty darn sure one team will be 1-2, and the other 2-1.

They should win Sunday, but the next three games after the Rams might be ugly. But who knows.

the OL was impressive.. on running plays.. not on passing plays.. part of that might be Romo, he doesn't move around as well after the back injury, and may never reclaim his former agility..
it will be interesting to see if the strategy remains, ramming Murray down the Rams' throats.. I'm sure the Cowboys will start with that plan, hopefully they will bail if it doesn't work early.. Murray's off to a great start, but his history suggests he will have some lackluster performances soon.. Romo looked ok last week, because Murray made him look ok.. I'm not sure Romo can carry the team at all, if called upon to do so..

Who here thincks Romo can withstand a season of abuse like he has received? Murray is probably going to be more reluctant to get hurt, its a contract year and he wants a big one.
