In everyday conversation, I think the apostrophe is most often used in contractions - as in I'll be glad... or you'd be surprised...

Apostrophes used in the possessive case seem to have more limited use. For example, Daddy's girl or that man's hair but not - the baby robin fell from its nest. Go figure.

This stuff pains my head & if you've read this far in this string, you really need to find a woman.

You used a double superlative when you said "single most". It should read "Verbal and written communication is the most important skill possessed by humans".

A great source for a cursory overview of grammar subjects is....

It's a Cliff's Notes of grammar information.

I'm not sure there is a way to salvage this sentence. First, "most" means "highest in quantity or amount"; therefore there can only be one "most". However, the sentence subject contains two: "verbal" and "written". Then (since the subject is plural) the verb should be "are" rather than "is", and "communication" should be plural as well. That puts the object singular and the subject plural, so there's work to be done there as well.

Here's the best I can come up with (considering it's 3:30 in the morning and I'm typing on my iPhone):

"Verbal and written communications skills are very important for humans to possess."

That's because I'm a "she." User profiles are your friends, blind assumptions are not.

This is some funny shit - reminds me of why I hated English courses (except lit)! The guy with the worst grammar I ever saw is a computer programmer. He can read and write Java but he can't write English.

Oh BTW - when did we stop putting two spaces at the end of a sentence, before starting the next?

Congradulations instead of Congratulations (correct)
Accept and Except (different meanings - used out of context)

If it was never correct, why did typing textbooks teach it in 1963? Every textbook and manual on typing taught that.

They taught it in the 80s and early 90s too, though it does seem like one day they just stopped caring about it. Fascinating.

Actually I am terrible at typing and typo's and have become dependent on my computer to do spell check for me. I don't know if it is the OS of my computer but since I had it rebuilt I now get a little red line that appears under a misspelled word that allows me to go back and highlight the word and replace with the correct spelling of it. Sometimes I type on my smartphone when replying or posting to these boards and the auto speller/corrector thingy puts in the wrong word too! lmao

I was just reading a review, ran across a word that I argued back and forth with my daughter about and still do. "conversate" WTF!!! You don't conversate, you can have/had a conversation or conversations, but can never conversate.

You can have a conversation and you can converse. There is no conversate.
