Tatiana I wouldn't worry too much about it. What I can tell you is that earthquakes have been around for as long as the planet. And honestly, the day there are no more earthquakes will be a very bad day for us all (no Earth left...). We are very lucky, the US is relatively stable geologically speaking; however, back in the
1811 & 1812 there were 3 major earthquakes near New Madrid, MO. estimated to be 8.0 or higher.
In terms of the historical record we are rather sheltered, but that doesn't change the fact that Earthquakes are a fact of life and humans have lived with far worse trough history.
