The use of a banana in that context serves no other purpose than to equate a black man with a monkey. This has been a common racial slur for decades. It was not necessary for the truck owner to include that in his message. It's highly insulting. If you don't see it, JD, after it's been pointed out to you, it's because you emphasize politics over facts. I do not like having Obama as President, but there is no need for racist epithets EVER!
I know its not an age thing, at what point does a person move on from investing so much of them self's in political dribble? I think most of us would by 30's or so but then again is it experience or something else completely.

Maybe I grew up and a non racist environment. Sorry to say that you didn't. By the time I may have been exposed to some of this stuff I was old enough to question it and dismiss it. It was not part of my upbringing. To put a point on this, in the 1960s my family moved outside of St. Joseph, MO to a farm. We still owned the house in town. My father and mother rented the house to a black family. The only black family on the block! They always said that they were the best renters that they ever had even though it only lasted a couple of years.

and we have a winner! you are correct. the very fact that no one is exactly the same sets up all the foibles of humanity. even within the races we are racist, is not a poor white man jealous of a rich white man? that is economic racism if you will. at the least it's jealousy which is the first step to hatred.
so what's the solution? right now, there is no solution. None. thousands of years of interracial and even intra-racial wars and economic disparity and religious differences aren't going away easily. No amount of political correctness or idiotic zero tolerance stances is going to erase all that history. what will? who knows? If we'd just stop killing each other over these petty things and remake the world into a more equal situation for all, maybe that might do it. Maybe not. it might take this ..
