Had Romney been elected and instituted his $2T unrequested increase in defense spending we would have truly become what Dwight Eisenhower warned of at the end of his presidency - the military-industrial complex. Books like "The Iron Triangle" and "The Halliburton Agenda" describe these scenarios with chilling accuracy. The saber-rattling of the so-called warrior class is but a thin veil over the true aspirations of the shadow powers of the world, of which Romney was a willing shill.
You can run around with your hair on fire and cry wolf about Muslim extremists 'til the cows come home, but the truth of our conflicts around the world lies in the competition for resources, primarily oil. Our efforts across the oil-rich international community benefit the oil cartels. Witness their record profits. More sinister than that, though, are the concerted legislative efforts of that industry to suppress research into and development of alternative transportation fuels. Recently Rep Mike Conaway (a proven oil industry shill) stated that algae oil research is junk science. Garbage. The Navy is very interested in algae oil. It has a huge potential, is easily refined, even if extraction is still a problem. Moreover, T. Boone Pickens' "Pickens Plan" is a perfect example of how our own natural resources can act as a bridge fuel for large vehicle over-the-road transportation, and even rail transportation, until we can come up with a more viable, scalable solution.
We are held hostage by the warrior class, but only until we wean ourselves from foreign oil and curb our appetites for petroleum products, and those who profit from the efforts of our finest and bravest are getting away with great profits while their children lead the lives of the indolent rich and assuage their guilty consciences with a flip "Thank you for your service'. It makes me angry.
I am a Vietnam Vet. That was an oil war - and I challenge anyone to contest that. I will bury you under the truth. My ancestors have fought and died in every conflict in this country since the French and Indian Wars. We provided blood and treasure for the American Revolution, served in the Navy and Army in the War of 1812, helped settle Texas in the early 1800's, fought in the Texas Revolution (I am related to Sam Houston on my great-grandmother's side), my grandfather fought in WWI, my father in WWII, my uncle was in the second wave at Iwo Jima, I had an uncle and several cousins in Vietnam, one of them is on The Wall in Washington, DC, and my son-in-law just finished a tour on the USS Enterprise in the Persian Gulf.
You so-called secessionists make me ill. You are not Americans - you are traitors to this great national that so many of my kin gave their all for. I am a native Texan, likely much more so than many of your ilk, but I am a true American and I will always be one. Take your secessionist crap and leave my country and don't come back!

May happen sooner than you think. There are also petitions requesting that the government deport all of those who signed a petition to secede and strip them of their American citizenship.

Thanks, Oz, for the info. I believe I'll start looking for one (or more) of those petitions. I have a good friend who has bought in to the silver/gold/Republic of Texas crap, and it makes me sad. He's a good guy, but he can't keep the N-word out of his discussions. This isn't about economics - if it were it would have no legs at all. This is about racism, and it has been since its inception. Kudos also to Yssup Rider - understanding haters is to put them in their place - hopefully far away from wherever I am. Enough! We can be strong as a nation and recover from the greatest theft of national treasure in the history of this great nation ONLY if we come together and work as one.

And what exactly is being done about the greatest theft of national treasure in the history of this great nation? Financial prosecutions near 20 year lows. Obama just continued the aiding and abetting that Bush did. The ones who committed the crime are now stronger than ever and receiving just as much support as ever. They have a stranglehold on the economy and can crash it easily if anyone calls them out on their treason.
What is the silver/gold crap you are talking about?
It's great to have a positive attitude and all, but don't let it give you rose colored glasses. I don't blame the people that are frustrated because it seems like the system can't be changed from within.

I, for one was then, and still am, in favor of prosecution of the guilty, greedy bastards who gamed the system, but in doing so we should also take a good long look at how Glass-Steagall was torpedoed, at how bad intelligence got us in to Iraq before we were finished with Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, and how Halliburton, on the ropes at the time because of the acquisition of an asset with a HUGE asbestos liability, came out smelling like a rose. Obama's failure to rip the heads off the offenders and crap in the hole still irks me...that being said, we still have to maintain some decorum in the actual business of governance.
The answer is in accountability. As long as we continue to elect officials who shun accountability we will have decisions that cannot be accounted for. As far as silver/gold, you probably haven't seen the silver coinage minted with the Republic of Texas on it. This is what they say will save the economy. Sure, the FED was devised by Professor Goldman as a safety net for risky trades and unscrupulous traders, but to scrap it now overnight would be an unconscionable act with economic consequences that would favor only the wealthy. The rest of us would be condemned to a scenario like Cormac McCarthy's "The Road", or Hollywood's latest apocalyptic fantasy, "Hunger Games".
It is my humble opinion by neglecting to prosecute the guilty at the beginning of Obama's first term was a weak effort to extend an olive branch to the Republicans so that the business of the people might have a chance. It failed, partly because of the raucous blather of the Tea Party, and partly because Harry Reid failed to grow a pair, and Nancy Pelosi never had 'em. That whole gaggle of neo-cons that marched us into war and put it on the credit card ought to be strung up in the public square. Check out how many of them actually served in the military. Not very damned many.
As far as the criminals who are now stronger than ever, well you can thank the Boehner/McConnell obstructionists for that little favor...and it looks like it's coming back to bite them in the ass big time. Good. They embraced the silly-assed Tea Party nitwits in the House and THEY got their mantra from Nancy Reagan. "Just Say No" is now way to get the people's work done.
As far as rose colored glassed are concerned, my eyes are clear. Not just my beloved America is headed for disaster - the entire planet is in dire straits, and resource wars are our future, a direct result of overpopulation. What would you do about that?

You're a fool, Oz. You don't know when you are being deceived. Obama hides his real agenda behind pretty words.
When your freedoms are taking away by this man, you'll see. Mark my words. You will be crying like a baby.
"Obama won’t allow a little thing like the U.S. Constitution get in his way."

Your friend is doing the right thing. Work together? Not with this president.

Remember those words, boy. When your president puts you back in chains. When he takes away your freedom of speech, allows Muslim extremist to kills Americans, takes away your guns. Whose side will you be on then? Mark my words, boy, allows our children to be brainwashed by Muslims in our schools in the name of freedom of religion. You've been brainwashed boy. Obama is playing chess and people like you are playing checkers. And when fools like you re-elected him, Obama said, "Checkmate".
