Movie?
The Original "The Day the Earth Stood Still" with Michael Rennie. The remake was a ad for the "worlds coming to an end" groups and really not a REMAKE.

You are just too good to be true sometimes lol. Back on subject... like someone mentioned, when it comes to movies, its hard to pick a favorite because I get cravings for different things. Before reading the responses, I was hankerin' to watch Tron, because I saw the newest trailer for the sequal, but after reading the responses, I'm gonna need a buffet.
Somebody brought up the 'Peanut Butter Solution' and it reminded me of another movie that no one seems to remember: The Phantom Tollbooth
It came out in 1970, which was before my time, but I remember watching it as a kid. Left an impression. Turns out a remake is in production for 2013.

I'm appalled that there's not a single film save "Casablanca" on these lists that pre-dates 1965.
The best film ever made, bar none, was said by President Wilson, "It is like writing history with lightning. And it is all so terribly true."
That film was Birth of a Nation by D.W. Griffith.

*Ahem* Appalled? Really?
The Maltese Falcon (1941) and Dr. Strangelove (1964) both predate 1965.
And The Princess Bride (1987), Women on the Verge of Nervous Breakdown (1988) and La Femme Nikita (1990) were all released 20 years ago or more. It's not like they finished their run at the suburban multiplex yesterday.
Heck, just on the first two pages people mentioned
Rear Window (1954)
People Will Talk (1951)
Lost Horizon (1937)
North By Northwest (1959)
The Great Escape (1963)
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)
And all of Fancyinheels movies were sci-fi/horror films from the 50's.
It may be time for a trip to Lenscrafters.

Those are the movies I like as well. Plus,
Anything with Audrey Hepburn. She is sexy.
Mad Max and the Road Warrior/ 1979, 1981
Fright Night 1985
The Warriors 1979
Lords of the Flatbrush 1974
Season of the Witch 1973
The Devil in Ms. Jones 1973 (and a few porn movies from Marilyn Chambers era)
The Peanut Butter Situation 1980?
The Terminator 1984 (I like the second one, but to boring for me. I like Arnold as a bad guy)
The Goonies 1985
The Magnificent Seven
Clint Eastwood Movies 1960-2008 list (Yes, Gran Torino ^_^)
Blue Sunshine 1977
Rabid 1976 (Again, a Marilyn Chambers movie)
Teen Wolf 1985
And Romancing the Stone 1984, then the sequel

Okay you're right
I was so dazzled by seeing lists of films from the film-bankrupt 80s and 90s that I failed to see the occassional one like the Maltese Falcon.
I know more than a few people in the film industry, and almost to a man [or woman] they consider that the golden age of American cinema was in the 1970s. I agree with them, and I actually didn't believe that Birth of a Nation was the best film ever. It's actually a horrible peice of pro-KKK propaganda that President Wilson was STUPID ENOUGH to believe was true.
I was expecting to start a firestorm on this thread by making such an outrageous statement because I like to kick up a lot of shit from time to time, but no one took the bait because nobody knew what it was LOL.

I knew what it was, saw it for the piece of bait it was, and left it alone.
