First deposits aren't going to become the new norm. The product your selling is not a must have item. If I'm in the market to buy and the seller is asking for a deposit I'll just go elsewhere. Simple as that. Deposits don't protect anyone. You think someone can't rip you off just because they made a deposit. You say you should be compensated for your time checking someone out. Protection for providers AND clients is what's needed here. With a heavy dose of discretion. The type of information typically requested is anathema to people who value discretion with someone they don't trust.

The lack of trust from the jump is what makes it difficult to bridge the gap. Both sides dig in, entrench and feel aggrieved. Both sides have valid points.

Truth be told, despite what a certain batshit crazy provider posted @ me, I am not completely dug in against sending a deposit, but would use sensible judgment before doing so.
