To be real- If RBG were on a ventilator - she would be in a hospital. She has had an acute medical issue and surgery. To be discharged in the time period she was - it is not possible for her to be on a home ventilator.

The preparation, resources, nursing support, and adjunct care are extensive, and impossible to cover from an intrusive press.
I am confident she is not on a home ventilator and feeding tube.

Opinion Based upon public press releases and information.

No violation of HIPPA laws.
You are thinking in terms of an average family - no expense would be spared for RBG.

No amount of lies would be barred from protecting her real condition from the public.

You are obviously in the medical profession if you give a shit about HIPPA - so how many frail 85 year old cancer patients get most of one lung removed and aren't suffering from serious respiratory distress?

You have a difference of opinion with me on that matter.

Yes we do - but I don't see how it isn't very hard for her to breathe right now.

RBG had a lobectomy - removal of a part of the lung - not a majority of it.

The residual lung expands to cover the lost function and fill the chest cavity.
( tried to put that in non-physician language)
People tolerate that procedure well, in general.

I doubt she is in any respiratory distress at home.
If that happened - she would be post-haste hospitalized.
I am sure her physicians and care-givers are monitoring her very closely.
There is another thread - and interesting - about how to handle an incapacitated Justice on this forum.

The patient has previous known surgeries for colon cancer, has had chemotherapy and radiation therapy in 1999, pancreatic surgery for pancreatic cancer in 2009, in 2014 a stent in her right coronary artery, and this lobectomy in late 2018.

She is 85 years old, frail, and has been seen nodding off numerous times in public prior to this fall that produced broken ribs and the discovery of the cancer in the lungs.

It is reasonable to be concerned that she is having trouble with simple diffusion and hence my suspicion of respiratory distress. I maintain her having a physician at her home would be reasonable in her case, certainly skilled nursing round the clock to cloak her serious situation.

The parts of my family not filled with lawyers and shrinks are physicians, BTW.

I am not constrained by HIPPA and neither are you unless she is your patient.

Response to above last sentence.

HIPPA law covers patient privacy for all comers - not being a patient's physician does not exempt one from the law. Anyone who attempts to divulge or access private patient information is in violation of the law. Please consider consulting one of your family on the matter.
Respectfully submitted

You are correct. I’ve spent 35yrs in the HC business. A salesman can get thrown in jail for divulging patient information.

I appreciate your concern but in this matter I know of no private information since I'm quoting from public information or I'm speculating, and a physician can certainly comment on general matters concerning the average patient.

Nevertheless, since I'm not in the healthcare industry, I will speculate that she is likely in trouble.

Respectfully submitted,

Friendly Fred

Thank You FF - and in some ways you are correct.
She is an 85 year old with a cancer history, frail, and had a major thoracic procedure.
She is not out of the woods - complications can occur suddenly.
I guarantee her physicians and care personnel are on their toes - knowing the MSM is monitoring RBG - and the slightest issue in her care will swiftly elevate to review boards and Medical Boards with licenses at stake, not to mention malpractice suits in court and court of public MSM.
There is a great deal of pressure caring for patients such as RBG.

Probably cannot turn around in her home without running into medical personnel.

Time will tell . Patients such as this recover more slowly than younger folks.

I do wish her well and a speedy recovery.
Respectfully

Yes, lots of info in the public domain. In your context, not an issue. If you’re quoting what’s out there, it’s not an issue. And I agree. She’s not a healthy, robust person. That’s been obvious for a couple years. It’s just a matter of time.

Thank you both for your kind replies.

It is a shame the left doesn't have such respectful ways to conduct public discourse.
