I feel that most people think that high dollar presents are what make Christmas merry. When I was a kid, our stockings had nuts, an apple, an orange, some candy, and a small toy from a 5 & dime store (a dollar store today). My presents might be underwear, always pajamas made, by grandma. Two Christmases I hit the jackpot. One I got a bicycle that my father bought from a scrap yard. He and my uncle rebuilt it. The other big Christmas my mom made me a new bedspread that didn't look like one made for girls. All of our Christmases were merry. We weren't poor. We had a middleclass income.

By today's standards it sounds like you are poor. All you will get from me is pity. I won't ask for a freebie and I don't like you asking for a hand out, but it doesn't anger me.
