It is easy to get an indictment. There was too much pressure not to go to the Grand Jury. In those proceedings, the defense isn't present. It is the prosecutor presenting the case to determine if their is enough evidence to indict. They call witnesses and the Grand Jury is involved in asking for additional evidence. Unlike a jury you don't have to be unanimous. I believe need a vote of 8 out of 12. Again, at no time is the defense involved.

If you can't even get an indictment, you simply don't have a case.

I agree with the poster who said if he had just moved to walk on the sidewalk none of this would have happened. If a cop (regardless of his color or ethnicity) tells me to get on the sidewalk and stop walking in the middle of the street, I don't argue with them, ignore them or try to punch them inside their squad car. I get on the sidewalk as fast as i can and mind my business. If Brown made a better decision he would be alive. If I had done what Brown did, even with my small frame and lack of melanin, I might be dead too. What he did was STUPID! Absolutely STUPID! He was a loose cannon and it backfired. Has nothing to do with black or white. It has to do with stupid or not. Being aggressive toward the police is STUPID no matter what color you are.

His step dad inciting the riots last night with his, "Burn this bitch down" statement is just an example of the apple not falling far from the tree. More stupidity! I hope the business owners sue his ass off for encouraging the burning of their shops and businesses.
You got it girl! hit the nail on the head!

Too bad the kid wasn't white and/or the cop black. It woudn't even have made the news. Racism won't die until there is no profit left to be made from it.

Im AA and this case isnt clear cut Michael Brown was a thug. Shot six times is too many but we dont really know what his interaction with the cop was. I doubt he was obeying.

Im curious why the treyvon martin thing didnt erupt like this. that was clear cut black kid minding his own buisness stopped and ended up killed

The OP asked if there would be any reactions in Dallas.

Did see a bit of a fluff up on the news from last night. Around 200 protested and ending up on I35. I watched it live last night on the news.

In the end, it was a bunch of nothing, in my opinion ... as far as protests go. Seemed pretty peaceful.

Protesters were arrested. I think.

the big difference is, who killed the black kid..

Martin was shot by a wanna-be law enforcer, who had no legal authority at all..

Brown was shot by a Police Officer, who was part of a department that has been viewed for years, as oppressing blacks in Fergosun..

I'm sorry, but from the logic there in Ferguson ('the government didnt do enough to protect us from ourselves') and the lack of voter turnout over the last few decades, I'd venture to say the people in Ferguson have done a pretty good job at oppressing themselves without any help from the police.

Before the verdict l actually heard some dumbass from Ferguson get on the radio say they planned on rioting and looting because, "these businesses have insurance, where's my insurance for what is being done to me?"

That's the mentality of the people you are dealing with here. Absolutely no concept of how things really are. None. Just completely and relentlessly driven by the false senses of entitlement to whatever they think they deserve. No concept of the employees lost wages and need to feed their families, no concept of lost revenue or the fact that those companies may leave Ferguson all together and not rebuild there. I mean, what grown-ass man doesn't see the big picture?

So fucking disturbing that grown adults can't comprehend the basics of how a functional society works. I just have to turn it off. It infuriates me.

I saw that last night. Ridiculous. And who was protecting their asses from getting run over??? The police. They're lucky I'm not in charge, I would have let their asses get run over for being stupid enough to literally go playing in traffic. My 5 yr old knows better.

I'm telling you, smh, I think they have some decent arguments and I'd also like to see more cameras on law enforcement, tasers rather than guns and more socioeconomic equality in the legal system, but their strategies run the spectrum from laughable to offensive.

I'd be interested to know how many of those protesters cast their votes in the local elections a few weeks ago.

The number of shots fired could be related to many things. Possibly an adrenaline dump (killing someone is a hard and stressful thing to do, believe me). In lots of firearms cases people pull the trigger until the gun goes "click" and cant tell you how many times they fired. And lots of LEO only fire their weapons once a year for requals. Wilson may not be any more familiar or trained with his weapon than you are.

Or it could be that Wilson kept firing until Brown stopped advancing. Hard to tell. But, unlike the movies, people don't automatically drop if they get shot once.I. personally, witnessed a guy take three tazer hits and keep going. Brown probably had an adrenaline dump of his own during the incident that allowed him to play thru some of it.

There is also the third possibility, that Wilson just kept pumping bullets into him cuz he hates black people.

I carry myself and, God forbid, I ever have to pull it, I will fire until the threat is neutralized.

Now, on the point that there is no clear evidence that Brown was a thug. Someone else mentioned video footage of him assaulting a store owner shortly before the fatal incident. Is that accurate? And remember, I have not been keeping up with this one so there are lots of nuances I dont know.

Wasn't a thug? Didn't you see the video of him robbing a convenience store? Was he not walking down the center of the street when the police stopped him? When are these young men going to start respecting authority? He attacked this cop twice. The second time after being shot. Six shots was enough. He finally went down.

What would you do if you had already shot him and he turns (6'4" and 300 lbs) and charges you again, knowing you have a pistol leveled at him? I'm an excellent shot. I'm putting two in his chest and one in his head.

Treyvon Martin was a thug, too.

Black kids are getting killed in urban areas every day. 46% of young men shot in America are black. Mostly by each other. Where is the outrage?

I'll step up and say something Im not on this board a whole lot.

Being born and raised in St. Louis and living in Dallas for many years. I received several text from friends from the hobby wondering if I was going home for the holiday and cautioning me to be careful because frankly I was scared myself. Effective Monday I decided not to because I knew what the outcome was going to be, because I was closer tied and knowing more information regarding the Darren Wilson vs Michael Brown. But was caught in the middle of both. I was not ok with the looting and soon as I saw the cop car go in flames I changed the channel and didnt know what the outcome was going to be until the next morning. As I watch part of my city go up in flames I actually cried. It's sad to see your home town in such chaos , it's like a personal refection on me. I was, Saying "No please don't do this the half of the world is watching you".

Then the other part of me know what the rest of America doesn't. St. Louis is still so segregated while driving down any suburb there, Ferguson, Jennings, Pine Lawn, Ladue, Brentwood, Frontenac (sp) you are subject to getting pulled over and hassled just because, How I know I was one, My aunt who is Veteran is another and several college educated friends.

Its definitely not right what their doing. Those are the thugs that know this is there only outlet to relief there pain and for a free ride by burning, looting and taking from others. I just wanted to say whats happening there is beyond Michael Brown. But what most don't know there have be peaceful rallies there since August but November 24,2014 and August is what they will be remembered for.

When I was speaking with a friend the other day I mention what the voter increase was and she stated it wasn't by much. A lot of people are traveling to St. Louis on Buses and coming from other parts of the state protesting and causing all kinds of destruction.

GO CARDINALS..

Treyvon Martin was almost home and turned back and ambushed Zimmerman, pinned him to the ground and beat on him. Martin got what he deserved
