Completely different situation. Smoking creates risks to the health of non-smoking patrons and employees. The government has very wide latitude to keep one person's actions from harming the health of another.

You posted a video. I don't watch videos. In fact, I don't have speakers on the PC I'm on at the moment I watch video so rarely. At least some of the relevant parts of what he said, however, appear in the articles I pointed out. Specifically, I would point you to this language:

Well, actually, I hate to say this to you because I don't want to get your ego going. But I think you're right. I think, look, political correctness can lead to some kind of paralysis where you don't address reality.

O'Reilley, Bush, Fox, and the Republicans are not right. The reality is not that all Muslims are not terrorists. This is not a war on Islam. Also the notion that someone who wears traditionally ethnic garb is "identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims," is beyond ridiculous and bigoted. If I wear boots and a cowboy hat, am I primarily identifying myself as a redneck as opposed to an American? A yarmulke, a Jew, etc. ad finitum.

It sounds pretty ignorant that you have formed an opinion of the situation without hearing the Juan statment in context and only reading a left wing blog to form that opinion. I hope you are never offered a position as a judge.

Foxnews has a newscast -- just like NBC, CBS & ABC -- it used to be anchored by Brit Hume now it is Brett Baier. It runs from 6-6:30pm covering world news and politics and imo is as balanced or more balanced than the nets. They all have POV's which come through in their stories - Fox is rightish, the nets are leftish. That 30 minutes is followed by 30 minutes of opinion, analysis and discussion of the news that had just been reported (which is where Juan Williams usually appears). It is done in a panel discussion format -- always including at least one liberal. Their discussion is no different than what you would see on something like Meet the Press.

That 6pm show is followed by a one hour news broadcast anchored by Shepard Smith. His show is mainly general interest stuff like disasters and public interest -- I rarely watch it -- but it is news not opinion. That is then followed by an evening of opinion shows, which is entertainment just like Dancing With the Stars. During the course of the day, Fox News broadcasts about the same amount of hard news as NBC does. It is just that the Fox News network's entertainment portion is opinion shows. That is why folks like you always mis-characterize what they do.
Yes, a minstrel show is a form of entertainment.

Based on your postings here and at ASPD, your knowledge of history is quite shallow...and your wit is comparable to your spelling. Nothing that at few smilies can't fix!

I must take exception to that. His spelling is much better.

Here are a couple of smilies for a historical revisionist like your self. If I remember correctly you get your historical facts from Sean Hannity. Poor baby, Did I dis your hero. Hannity has impregnated more of you Log Cabin boys with bad DNA than Genghis Kahn ever did in his quest to rule the world.

Sorry PJ, Looks like I was parroting you, only with brevity!
I realize brevity is your speciality but I learning! ( you want any tips on how not to spell I be glad to help out!)

You gotta watch the whole video. Even then we may disagree. No problem there but it is not fair to judge something based on incomplete evidence.

You'd be identifying yourself as a Redneck American. JUst as they are identifying themselves as Middle Easterners. There is nothing either wrong or right about that. It just is. Whether that is the reality is not the issue. The issue was the projection of reality. MLK could have worn a Sheet and hood and folks would have thought he was part of the KKK. So MLK in a hood and sheet could spark an irrational fear in another black. That is another thing Juan discussed but you would have to listen the the whole transcript to hear that.( irrational fears, not MLK! lol)

So from my POV it is idiotic for NPR to fire Juan for the discussion of the origin of irrational fears.

Fox panders and distorts as does MSNBC. But, which one is about turning everything over to the ultra rich and huge corporations? As things continue on the present course and it gets to the point where the 5% who control 90% of the wealth make their move towards economically enforcing indentured servitude on the other 95% then things will be corrected. Then, the fear and hate will actually be directed in a constructive direction.
In what country do you live, ding dong? All of you forget why NPR wanted to dismiss Juan in the first place.....George Soros' $$$$$$$$$$!

the real difference between fox and msnbc' or for that matter obama et al and the tea party et al, is at least one loves america as the ideal enshrined in its founding documents...yes america hasnt always lived up to that ideal..but one side loves that and the other loves maybe the real estate of america or some groups in america, not any individuals but some woe-be-gone groups, who just cant make it on their own and we need to help them so we can feel better (not I help them but you listen to me and you help them) and has some misquided thought of correcting everything wrong in the founding documents and then we will be ok as long as we are in charge of you idiots.
