And this goes for the others, you sit in judgment of a kid you know nothing about yet are absolutely convinced he had ulterior motives.
Omnipotence is a trait I am yet to master.

I just think it's sad the kid worked hard for something and then threw it away to please an imaginary man in the sky. Foolish.

Let's be perfectly clear;wrestling is a fight with rules. Certainly before both are fully developed girls can run as fast or faster and pound for pound lift as much or more than many boys. But we all know that changes, sooner for some than others, so why do we want to say you can fight with girls until they don't have a chance and then you have to stop!
Do we really want to send these mixed messages to young men? As much as many would like to pretend that we are an androgynous species, we are not. This has nothing to do with equal rights or protection under the law. It's all about "don't hurt the girl". And then there is the other risk that a totally over matched girl gets not hurt but toyed and played with. Now there is a great lesson for a young man to learn.

I would've gotten on that mat and pinned her ass, and then would've smacked her on the ass afterwards.

Thats what I'm talking about!
I'm with London on this one....that boys parents got him scared shitless of some one on one action.
He gets laid between now and his next match, he won't be turning down no chance to mix it up with the ladies again.

I would have put it more along the lines of... in which of these areas do religious views still hold an "acceptable" amount of sway for actions that otherwise would not be tolerated...or, at least, nearly as well received. But this works too!
If you liked the HS wrestling story, my brother, you LOVE this one....

Go ahead...no pride of ownership...start a new thread & run with it...hypothetical your little heart out. Enjoy!!

When them Church Folk ARE Mom & Dad....doubly so! It's a religious POV that is heavily invested in the notion of submission....submission of self to the Will of God. Honor Thy Father & Mother. Hell...maybe that's why he wrestles...who knows?

I'd be vary curious to see what happens if they wound up meeting each other again in the final. I wonder if anyone's reaction would be different given the publicity the story has received.

Throw out the religious angle, men should not fight girls or women. If you put an artificial age on when men become men and girls become women you are screwing with their heads. It's not about a preteen girl being able to hold her own with a preteen boy: it's the fact that we condition boys to kick the shit out of girls!
I have raised strong, capable women that can kick a lot of males butts in terms of conditioning, agility etc..but no way am I letting that be an excuse for them being taken advantage by the inherent strength of a male.
I guess it comes down to you either believe that it is a given that you never manhandle a girl or woman or you don't. Personally, if I ever catch you, you better be a better wrestler than me.

As stated before I have no issue with the choice the guy made.
I agree with you Oden on your basic premise, but in this case the girl willingly with full consent put herself in this situation and I just don't see that as being the same thing.

So the kid said "its against his religion", that comment in itself is Chauvinistic because religion is chauvinistic toward women.
"From the beginning of time men have tried to dominate women. Man has used a variety of techniques to accomplish this task including physical power, withholding education, politics, sex, and even religion. The article for today, Male-Chauvinist Religion, is an insightful look at inequality and how religion is used as tool of oppression throughout the world. Deborah Mathieu shows how three major religions illustrate in the texts and the teachings that women are the inferior gender."
..."religions base their beliefs that the male is superior to the female on passages that state man was created in god’s image. Taken literally this alone is justification for male dominance. Christianity goes as far to say that the woman corrupting the man was the reason mankind was cast out of paradise."
"religions can be a powerful tool to advance mans agenda over women."
