[QUOTE=TexTushHog;2918634]You've all but eliminated malpractice cases in Texas. Filings down by a huge amount. Yet our medical costs are rising faster than the rest of the nation. Malpractice driving medical costs is just insurance company fiction Tito take away your Constitutional Rights. I guess you Tea Nut types don't care much for the Seventh Amrndment, eh

My family Dr(small town) had to leave his private practice and join up with a large Hospital because he couldn't afford the malpractice insurance. He was on a salary and still not making a decent living,so left and shut down the practice. Now is working weekends in a large hospital's ER and is happy and got his income back.

I'll bet you 100% of opthamologists (Lasik surgeons) accepted Medicaid funding of their residency.

Who said Obamacare was being funded 100% by Medicaid/Medicare? I think I see a strawman.

No straw here.
Just saying that this Lasik surgeon very well may not be taking Medicaid funds NOW, but undoubtedly he/she DID during the residency that trained him/her to be the Lasik surgeon they are today.
Hey taxpayer - now that you are done paying for my training, get the hell outta my waiting room!

Nobody said it, but "it seems" like we all do. Start with the basic comprehension course. And go in person, this isn't something you want to try to learn through the mail.

All I can add is that after ACTUALLY LIVING IN CANADA, I can tell you their system is a mess. Their citizens routinely cross the border for scans and tests that would take months to get in their country. AND, after living in a border state I can tell you I've seen and talked to those Canadians that were here seeking tests and treatments that they could not have back in Canada because of the lack of imaging equipment.

First of all, you guys are mostly all wrong to think this has to do with the Affordable Care Act.
The problems with health care long outdate the current blather over "Obamacare." The problem is that the United States health care system has been upside down for decades. While the rest of the world was developing methods to care for people, our radiologists, anesthesiologists and other sub specialists were trading in their 5 series BMW for a 7. (These subspecialists have been the loudest opponents of virtually every health care reform since the 60s).
Like social security, Medicare was something that most people felt they had coming because they'd spent their lives paying into the system. Medicaid was for the poor.
It wasn't until the 1980s that US health care took a step in any direction. The insurance companies took control and through HMOs and other "managed care" models began dictating how doctors were allowed to treat patients. They used Medicare as the baseline and then paid docs as much as 30% less than that.
(NOTE: your report, COG, is bullshit from a bullshit organization that's part of the Tea Party coalition.)
Doctors have been threatening to take new Medicare patients ever since the dawn of HMOs. Doctors that practice in underserved areas don't see much more than Medicaid patients (or pro bono cases in the ER). They get 20-30% of their costs covered, if at all. They're not quitting medicine. They're going to work for corporations and hospitals.
A lot of docs, particularly older ones, won't take on new patients who aren't private pay.
The med students I talk to overwhelmingly believe they'll wind up employees of a hospital system or public health organization. Even those at A&M.
What do they think about the Affordable Care Act? Those who aren't looking to trade up to a BMW 700 series are pretty tickled about it because they're going to start getting paid again. Older ones are nervous about the cost of implementing electronic health records but understand that it's the only way to cut down waste. They're just not going to make a long-term investment when their careers are nearly over. Those who have embraced electronic health records are back in the black.
To base a discussion on this Tea Bagger bullshit study is beyond simplistic. It's ludicrous.
But I'm sure there's a lot more where that came from...
