Thanks Kerwil i love Austin im sure they do have some great record stores. Mojo no Frostwire I actually lived in a generation where we enjoyed going out to listen and buy music. I have an Itouch and all that but i miss the actual event of shopping in the store for music. EA Cactus is still around?

Great thread Ike!

Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon
AC / DC – Back in Black
Squeeze – East Side Story
Stevie Ray Vaughn – Texas Flood
Paul Simon – Graceland
Led Zeppelin – IV
U2 – Rattle and Hum
I could go on all evening
LZ-IV & PF-DSotM make my classic rock list. Squeeze-ESS make my alt list. U2-R&H belong in there...lol...somewhere! So does Auchting, Baby...Joshua Tree...and Boy. So MANY lists...so little time...

He did, indeed. And Brother Marvin got Frankie Beverly & Maze signed...amongst others. Marvin's willingness to battle Barry Gordy for control of his own sound & a label of his own to discover/develop other artists arguably saved soul music when the sound was beginning to stagnate in the early 70s

Now, now...I don't know that I'd go THAT far! Without a doubt, his recording of, "A Change Is Gonna Come" STILL makes all the hair on my body stand up!

But, Smokey...Barry Gordy...and the Funk Brothers had as much to do with it as Sam. BUT...lol...that's an argument worthy of a couple of cigars and many...MANY scotches at Downing Street some night...preferably between sets of live music!!

Mila- No it isn't I used to go there a lot. The old Bookstop that was next door is gone too. Lots of memories in that shopping center for me.

Savage Garden- I think there were only 2 and both were good
2 Pac- Greatest Hits 2 disc
Temptations- Greatest Hits
George Strait- 50 #1's
EA, The Hastings I go to is in Lake Jackson, not sure if there are any in Houston or not. I also go to the one in San Marcos everytime I'm in town. Not sure if anyone used to go to the old Texas Tapes and Records in Pasadena on Spencer. That place was Bad Ass. I used to go there for record signings for different groups and they had all the import stuff that you couldnt get anywhere else. They had a big head shop area, T shirts, Albums, Pics, and all kinds of memorabilia. That was my favorite store growing up.

There just isn't many individual places to go in Houston anymore. The cd warehouse that used to be on shepherd used to be really good. Wharehouse music was a huge music chain store for a long time but it's gone. Crazy how everything is Internet these days....
