I saw Zappa Plays Zappa last year when they opened for Return To Forever. Eric Johnson and Chick Corea both jammed with them. Great show!

No, only the stage is covered at Stubbs. But it will be worth the effort.

Jefferson Airplane is still my all time favourite band. Jorma's killer acid leads over Jacks rumbling bass with Gracies icy vocals. When they were on they were hard to beat.
Other honorable mentions are King Crimson, Soft Machine, Sly and the Family Stone, Funkadelic, X, The Stooges, Kraftwerk and the Beatles.

Led Zep with Robert Plant going full force in concert Houston 1977. Nothing compares, no contest. Most interesting voice Leon Russell.

Led Zeppelin... saw then in Ft Worth in '73 on the House of the Holy tour. 20th row back on the floor. Still have the old ticket stub 4 dollars and 50 cents. Great concert and loud as hell.

Do any of you remember the Texxas Jam festival back in the late 70's early 80's? I believe Texas was spelled with two xx on the concert poster and t-shirt. It was the jam fest to my older brother's generation to what Lalopalooza is to my generation. Anyway, my brother took me to one of the shows at the Cotton Bowl to see Ozzy Osbourne, Foreigner, Journey, Santana, Joan Jett. It eventually became the "Monsters of Rock" tour in the late 80s.

I do remember the Texxas Jam. I attended three of them, including the first. I can even remember the lineup and order they played in at the first (best) one. Held on July 1st, 1978, just weeks after I graduated from high school.

It was 104 degrees that day and it was packed! The estimated temprature on the field that day was over 115. This was also the first day of a 2 day show. The second day was country performers. It almost didn't happen, because the infield at the Cotton Bowl was so torn up!

The first big concert I ever saw at the Cotton Bown was in '75. Montrose, Trapeze, then the Eagles and the Rolling Stones were headliners. It was every bit as hot that day as the first Texas Jam three years later. They had plastic on the playing field with water. It was used as a Slip n slide. Fun times.

Also remember that Aerosmith sucked at the '78 jam. Sloppy as hell . Steve Tyler would forget the lyrics and the band weren't nearly as tight as their lps. Also don't remember Walter Egan at the first Jam. Thought he did a concert later that Fall with Bob Welch and Stevie Miller at the Cotton Bowl.

I thought Ted Nugent played before Heart at the first one. I remember he cut his concert short due to heat exhaustion( or other factors he he)...and then Heart followed in the heat. I was impressed as they were from the NW and didn't think that they would be able to take the heat as well as they did. My GF and I were down on the front close to the stage and the firehosing was a welcome relief. Held our beer cups to get water. Lots of topless latter day hippie chicks up on their BF's shoulders. Those were the days.
