An article in Fusion magazine (which is owned by Univision).
“If you go to Fusion, you will see a story: About 80% of the women coming in — you know who owns Fusion? Univision!” Trump told Lemon. “Go to Fusion and pick up the stories on rape. And it’s unbelievable when you look at what’s going on. So all I’m doing is telling the truth,” Trump told Lemon.
When the host pushed back, noting that the stories concern female immigrants being raped, Trump shot back with this instantly classic quotes. “Well, somebody’s doing the raping, Don! I mean somebody’s doing it!” Trump said. “Who’s doing the raping? Who’s doing the raping?”
Watch the clip below, via CNN:
To find the answer to Trump’s question, we can turn to the Fusion article he loves so much. Headlined,
“Is rape the price to pay for migrant women chasing the American Dream?” the 2014 piece, written by
Erin Siegal McIntyre and
Deborah Bonello, found that “a staggering 80 percent of Central American girls and women crossing Mexico en route to the United States are raped along the way.” According to Fusion’s reporting, “perpetrators can be coyotes, other migrants, bandits, or even government authorities.”

The author says that Trump got it wrong but only if you want to play the game of semantics. Was Trump absolutely, 100% correct about the story? No, maybe 90% but as Trump says, someone is raping those women and those women will continue to try (and be victims) to come to the US as long as the border is unsecured.
