He had some big games in Buffalo, Maybe even top fantasy player type games. That's what put him on the map. He just isn't consistent.

Fitz played a good game against a bad defense. Same can be said for the Texans defense. They played well against a bad offense.
Watt got away with one on that hit that put Mettenberger out of the game.
Foster called for relief in some really strange situations, especially early on, or at least it seemed that way to me. They obviously want him limiting his carries. I'm not sure he interprets that the way they want him to. Who knows what goes on in his head.
Nuk showed he was worthy of that 1st round pick. So give Rick Smith credit where it's due.
The Texans secondary has some athletes they just aren't a team, yet. That's on Crennel.
Bottom line is that the Texans won that game in the way they should have won it.

I'm not giving Rick Smith credit for hitting on a 1st round pick. Every GM should hit on their 1st Round picks. Unless some of this picks 2-7 start playing really good (or unless we somehow beat Indy @Indy in a couple weeks), his ass should be gone.
Watt is probably the best player in the league this year, so Rick deserves a lot of credit for getting him (let's just say it was him and not Wade Phillips that wanted him for arguments sake), still doesn't give him a free pass to fuck up the last 3 drafts.

Good shit Daddio....I don't think he's gone though if we make the playoffs, and I think that is actually a realistic possibility, I just ran through the list of all the teams ahead of us in the playoff picture, here is my analysis.....
I had Cleveland and Pittsburgh out of it with an 8-8 record. I have Kansas City in as the top wildcard with a 10-6 record. But then it's a complete cluster fuck as I have all of these teams going 9-7:
Texans
Dolphins
Ravens
Buffalo
Now I didn't just pick the winners off who Vegas has favored, because just like with what we saw with the Saints this week, doesn't always play out like that.
If the clusterfuck scenario plays out and we miss out, I still want Smith gone.
The NFL is full of parody as we see week after week, so I would not recommenced anyone doing what i just did unless you have 20 minutes to kill. Kind of pointless trying to simulate shit in your head. But Fuck it I'm bored.
We actually have a pretty soft schedule to end things compared to some of the other teams on the bubble. The games against the Jags should be easy, Watt and our defense usually kill Rookies, so having those chalked up as W's are almost automatic. Ravens at home is 50/50, winning that gets us to 9 wins.
And @Indy is going to be a bitch, I had that as a loss. But you never know what can happen when a team like ours will be playing with house money, maybe BOB can copy what Bellicheck did a few weeks back and we can pull a rabbit out our ass. But I doubt it.

Looks like only 2009 was a decent draft front to back but they then let most of those player walk !

Current Texans from Rick Smith drafts:
2007 - 0
2008 - 1 Duane Brown
2009 - 1 Cushing, signed Foster as FA
2010 - 2 K. Jackson, Garrett Grahm
2011 - 4 JJ, Brooks Reid, Shiloh Keo, Derek Newton
2012 - 7 Mercilus, Posey, Brandon Brooks, Ben Jones, K Martin, J Crick, Fat Randy,
2013 - 2 Hopkins, swearinger
2014 - 7 Clown, Su a Filo, Fiedorowicz, Savage, Pagan, Blue, Prosch,
56 picks and we have JJ, Mercilus, Hopkins, As impact players.
We have Cush, Reed, Jackson, as ok guys.
We have the Ole Oline nucleus of Newton, Brooks, Ben Jones,
We have non starters Swearinger, K Martin, Posey(where the fuck is this guy???)
We have one diamond in Blue but he is a backup. If we didn't luck out and get Foster boy o boy would we really suck.
The misses far out way the hits. FIRE RICK SMITH!!!!!!!!!!!

I know they were a TD favorite but I had the Dolphins losing, guess they are now 10-6 in my simulation along with KC.
If that happens, fuck it, at least Rick will be gone! Lol

Tebow, Chill the fuck out!
You fucktards read too much into my post. I'm not giving Rick Smith a pass. Hell, he deserves the bashing he gets but if I'm gonna bash him I'm gonna give him credit where it's due. Nuk could be a future pro bowler. That's all I'm saying.
Smith's overall draft record sucks no doubt. I'm fine if they fire him. They should have done it last year so the entire operation would have been new and on the same page in their draft priorities. I'm pretty sure I'm on record having said that.
Edit:
Went back and found this post where I said Smith should have gone out with Kubiak. I'm pretty sure there are others.

Clowney is probably best suited for a 4-3 defense or playing nickle and dime packages as an outside rusher.
There is no one in this draft that is just an absolute sure fire #1 pick. So do we draft for need or for talent. Need is QB hands down but there isn't a QB talent worthy of a #1 overall pick IMO. What further complicates the matter is that Rick Smith must get this right or he will lose his job next year. That hamstrings O'Brien a bit. Now, we may get a QB that O'Brien is not in love with because Smith is trying to save his job. O'Brien is disgruntled at best and doesn't get the best effort from Smith's QB that he would from his own. 3 years down the road we may be looking for a new head coach and QB and telling ourselves that the GM needs a chance to prove himself. Smith should have gone out with Kubiak if O'Brien was going to get a fair shake next year.
Even the Cleveland owner made the right decision yesterday to cut everyone loose. 6 weeks late but he did it.

By the way, All y'all should go back in this thread to about this time last year. Some of y'all predicted some off the wall shit compared to what you are saying now.
Hell, BL thought Blake Bortles sucked...

Not picking on you, Don....your post just got me to thinking and I wanted to pipe in my 2 cents.....
(J.J.).... "one" of the best, to be sure. Top four - five in the league, no question ......however, the best player in the league today probably is Aaron Rodgers. And I think MVP voting at the end of the season will reflect that opinion.
If given the choice, I'd take him right now, hands down, to be the QB of my fave team (yes, over Peyton and Tom and anyone else you might suggest). He makes plays from the pocket....with his legs....he puts pressure on defenses on practically every snap.
If you take a look at his numbers for the first 12 games of this season (especially at home) it's just stupid what he's doing to opposing secondaries. J.J is a dominant player, no doubt about that....but the impact Rodgers has on every possession, every game is undeniable. He makes throws that (in many cases) there simply is no defense for.....and the way games are officiated today, that puts him at the top of the list.
I've no doubt how everyone in the Houston area feels about Watt....he's incredibly popular and is having a terrific season (and if he plays at this level for an extended period of time of his career, he's a shoo-in for the HOF). But I'd bet today there's many a die-hard Texan fan who would take Rodgers in a heart beat over just about any other player in the NFL...J.J. included.

It wasn't so much that I thought he sucked, I thought he was not ready, that he needed to sit for a year and learn. How is his team doing so far?

I love Rodgers, who doesn't. You're right. He along with Brady and Demarco Murray are probably more important to their respective teams and will probably finish ahead of him in MVP voting.
