Default Secession

When I think of all who have sacrificed and died for this country, to keep it whole and to keep it free.....I think plainly that any talk of secession is nothing but pure TREASON.

You are not Americans anymore in my book.

Am I mistaken or does not all military equipment property of the federal government? Exactly what was Texas' military budget in its last fiscal year? So why would the federal government leave on piece of military hardware in a state that would secede? I'm sure the guns owned by the people of Texas would be incredibly effective against the U.S. owned M1-A2 Abrams tank.

I truly mean no disrespect, but America is rapidly becoming not America. My heart breaks when I see the graves of soldiers, and then see what our government is becoming. The Declaration of Independence says that when a government becomes contrary to the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, it is the obligation of the people to alter or abolish said government. We are about at that point. Treason to America? No. Treason to the socialist, controlling country we are becoming? I hope so.

That same argument was made 234 years ago, "we are all Englishmen, any talk of independence is treason." They were right and they were wrong at the same time. A country is a concept, an ideal, and sometimes that ideal is corrupted to a point that the people can no longer see the original ideal.

Look at the headlines; US sues state for protecting border with Mexico, US Attorney General approves of lawsuit against state protecting it's border with Mexico, Homeland security begins monitoring Internet, Homeland security bans site with controversial viewpoints for employees, Supreme Court decides that citizens have 2nd amendment rights (Chicago says not so fast and creates new laws), Supreme Court decides that government CAN take land for private use, etc, etc...

To put a fine point on it, this is the United States where we can talk about ANYTHING we want to and anyone who thinks that is treason is being unpartriotic.

Default Treason

Tell it to the dead that allow you to speak.

Fortunately, actually so unfortunately you are in such a fringe minority that what you advocate is totally unpaletable to the public at large.

Vote em in or out but do not speak heretically to me about who is a patriot or not.

I know pornography when I see it and I know what you espouse too and it makes me sick.

LETS BE CLEAR HERE, NO ONE HAS EXPRESSED IN ANYWAY THAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE ACTUAL STATE SECESSION. They are speaking in general terms regarding the idea that a small group promotes. Stop the bs please or the thread is going to get closed.

Default Poll

A recent poll by the Dallas Fort Worth Telegram reported that 75% of Texans said NO to secession.

Catnipdipper, please read the post... No one, NO ONE has been promoting secession. You made the charge of being unpatriotic for just talking about it and now you have to live with the fact that you have outed yourself. You do not seem to believe in what this country stands for and that is the right to dissent. I served my time and I earned the right to dissent while others have been given it as a gift by people like me. Would you arrest a teacher in the classroom for bringing up the subject? From your posts it sounds like you would. So I urge you to go back and carefully read the posts, examine your motives, and then come back and apologize to so many here.

Default Secession

I have read your posts and what I feel are your none to subtle attempts to mask your purposes.

I stand for those that died to make men free to sit around on the fringes and talk crap and desecrate their sacrifice.

I would be happy to be Aaron Burr to your Alexander Hamilton.

"Am I mistaken or does not all military equipment property of the federal government?"

Umm...We're talking about succession, right? Texas would immediately sieze all National Guard equipment, regardless of who owns it or what type of long term lease they have on it. Would the federal government really try to take it back?

Now the big question is whether or not Texas would confiscate equipment on Federal military bases such as Fort Hood. In for a penny, in for a pound, I don't see what would stop them.

Of course this would mean outright war...maybe.

As to the treason accusations, and dishonor to those who have fought and died for this country....

An officer takes an oath to defend the constitution. Not the government. Think about that. Those who died defending this country did so defending the constitution...not the government.

I'm not advocating seccession or overthrow...but there has to be a breaking point. If our current government instituted the death penalty for dissent, most would agree that it would need to be overthrown....in order to preserve the constitution. For that reason, I don't think a reasoned discussion of the subject is treason at all....remember, the president himself takes an oath to defend the constitution. If the government becomes severely contrary to the constitution, how would he fulfill his oath?

Now, now. No one is going to secede, and we aren't having another civil war. The best solution is for those of us who are like minded to move to a remote South Pacific island. You know, one of those with topless native girls in grass skirts serving rum drinks with umbrellas in them. It would beat the hell out of moving to Texas.

You left out the part of the induction oath where the inductee swears to obey the orders of the President of the United States and all officers appointed over him.

P.S. The National Guard swears to obey the POTUS and the Governor. Any soldiers in Fort Hood would have to obey the orders of the US Army, and that would incude not abandoning their posts. They'd defend Fort Hood, or desert it and take all their toys with them.
