Bottom Line Bob no where to be found.
I’ve heard that he’s looking for PNC Park upgrades? Is that true? If so, our city leaders better not give him a dime without team payroll increases.

I can’t entirely agree with you. Nutting is a lousy owner, but Neal Huntington and Clint Hurdle did quite a bit better with “Bottom Line Bob” and the limitations he imposes than a Herrington and Shelton are currently doing. They at least assembled a good MLB roster from multiple young prospects (Cutch, Walker, Alvarez, Cole, etc) plus a couple of decent free agent pickups, most notably Russel Martin and AJ Burnett. I see nothing resembling such a course now. The have Skenes, who is probably better than Cole, but a bunch of average to below average guys otherwise, and no significant free agent additions.

I agree. Huntington built a strong core with Cutch, Marte, Palonco, Walker and Alvarez. I think he got Josh Bell too. Cole, Tailon and the other guy pitching for the Dodgers. Then added siolid vets like Russell Martin, Byrd, Mornue, Cervelli, Burnett , Happ and Liriano. It can be done on a budget.
That being said, they should have kept Chapman for 10 mill and brought in at least one legit bat. That’s on Nutting.

Come on man. What is the common denominator? A man who is always near bottom with his payroll, doesn’t allow a real build effort around Skenes (who definitely will pass anything Cole does baring injury)…a generational talent that will be 10000% gone after his rookie deal is done.
It’s a shame. This town misses a competitive team.

Well, I do agree with you on this. I fully expected Nutting to go to 100 million this offseason to capitalize on potential. They were buyers at the deadline last year but the bullpen imploded and dashed any postseason hopes. They lost out on Chisholm which was a big lose at the deadline. That’s why I thought they would bring back Chapman and add a legitimate bat or two. They didn’t even try. I didn’t have the optimism this year that I had last year. Maybe Nutting lost faith in Cherrington as an evaluator of talent. If that’s the case, he should have fired him last year. They’ll have a worse record this year than last year.

I wouldn’t go that far. I defended Nutting until this year. I was a defender of Tomlin, but that ended 4yrs ago. This thread has nothing to do with politics.

More sloppy play. But that’s not why they lost. They’re simply not as good as the Yankees.

Steigy is 100% correct. But a salary cap won’t happen in MLB. Give a listen
https://x.com/steigerworld/status/19...095369612?s=42
Can Nutting spend more on salaries? Yes. Will it make the Pirates competitive against the Yankees or Dodgers? No

At least Skenes knows his release date already. He’ll be gone moments after his rookie deal expires. Enjoy him while we have him. Thanks once again Bob

... Too right, mate ... Although the Pirates will prolly
move Skenes in a trade next year - "for Prospects"...
So, Skenes' "pirate prison" won't be for long...
(Hey Char - you think Skenes might be interested in
the Steelers QB job??)
