Sorry Chili, but even a good shot of whiskey at 40% to 60% (120 proof) just isn't going to do a complete job on the crap in your mouth. Alcohol kills germs by pulling the water out of the cell and it takes about 70% to do that on the skin. In the mouth it will burn like hell.
The rest of the story: It was my first microbe isolation and identification. The class was assigned the task of taking cultures out of our own mouth. After streaking a plate, finding a growth that looked healthy, regrowing and isolating the culture and regrowing again before identifying what was there. I found the genus Neisseria to which the species gonococcus belongs.
I became concerned and went to the instructions who told me to calm down because the genus Neisseria comprises a number of closely related Gram-negative organisms isolated from both humans and animals
He than told us that the purpose of isolating the bacteria from our own mouths was to show us that the mouth is the dirtiest parts of the body. All kings of stuff grows there. After that I never failed to brush my teeth at least twice a day.
