That's the most annoying thing about all this. Walmart's been looking to get rid of their 24hr stuff for a long time, this is the excuse they needed. Now my only option if I need something overnight is 7/11. Being able to do some grocery shopping when I have a sudden instance of insomnia was nice.

A Stat that concerned me today, is this:
Covid deaths in Dallas County today.. One
Covid deaths in Denton County today.. EIGHT
Huh?!
That suggests to me that Denton folks are way behind in vaccinations. 6 months ago these numbers would be reversed.
I'm also surprised to read that only 45% of the US is fully vaccinated now. We should be at 70%. Price and availabilty are not obstacles. Attitude is still a major hurdle.

Why the concern? My guess is combine the COVID deaths, COVID illnesses and vaccinations we are at "herd immunity."
Stop panicking and get Hu to send me a check.

This is one of the reasons you should be taking your vaccine and why you don't want to be infected with the coronavirus. Covid-19 can have many long term effects even if you have a mild case.
"A new study from researchers in the United Kingdom has found that the coronavirus may cause long-term brain loss and could be the reason some COVID-19 patients lose their sense of smell and taste."

Viruses are tissue specific which means they only affect a certain type of tissue. So if Covid-19 is an upper Respiratory virus it is only going to affect the tissue of the lungs sinuses and the mucous lining of the nasal passages. The loss of taste and smell would be due to the inflammation of the tissue of the inner nasal passages and it wouldn't be a permanent condition. Any affect on the brain would be something different.

Looking at CDC numbers the USA is close to Herd immunity but not quite there.
Illness 34,000,000
Aysmptomatics 34,000,000
# vaccinated 148,000,000
# deaths 604,000
Total Infected 216,604,000
Herd Immunity for SARs Cov2 virus has not been defined yet.
Some scientist say 70% of population needs to be vaccinated and/or infected to reach Herd immmunity others say 80%.
70% of 330,000,000 = 231,000,000
80% of 330,000,000 = 264,000,000
If it's true that 45% of the USA population has been fully vaccinated then the USA is pretty close to Herd Immunity.

It's all a scientific wild ass guess (SWAG).
If we are almost there according to the CDC, we're there. The CDC and the govt just don't want to let go of control.

Close, but not quite correct, Levianon. Viruses are receptor specific, so any cell type that has the appropriate receptor may be directly affected by the virus...not sure about brain cells and the blood-brain barrier may mitigate, again not sure. But secondary damage caused by side effects of the bodies natural defense mechanisms (sometimes "over react"), such as complement "clogging" of renal tubules can occur without direct infection of the damaged cell by the virus. I suspect that the effectiveness of steroid therapy is related to the modulation of these defensive mechanisms.

The only receptor that's being activated for some people is the panic receptor.

If you even suggest the "science" is "intelligent guessing", so many get triggered.

Does ANYONE still believe the CDC numbers?
I know we have to use numbers gathered by "someone" but GIGO is the first thing that comes to my mind.
Personally I think that the 34 million plus 34 million = 68 million total COVID cases is grossly underestimating the real number of people already exposed. MY WAG (wild ass guess) is that "most" people have been exposed already and that (combined with the people getting vaccinated) is the reason cases have dropped so far so fast.
It's just like hunting for pussy in a small town, it doesn't take to long to run out of fresh meat, I think COVID itself is simply running out of "fresh meat"

They’re the ones in those hospital parking lots.
Still not allowing visitors, are they?

I used to have a cartoon on my office wall. In it, three scientists in labcoats standing around and one says "All we need is a cheap substitute for accuracy."
