You should quit man because it's dumb and makes no sense. I've quit cigarettes a bunch of times. I'll often go months without smoking and randomly pick it up again, by choice only. It's very easy to quit. It's mainly psychological that you feel like you have to smoke. It's really no big deal to quit. Do it right now. Instead of smoking, just eat a McDonalds or something. It's the same effect.

The most I ever smoked was about a half a pack a day, for a short while. I think on average I was smoking 2 or 3 packs per week. So, although I wasn't a heavy smoker, I was smoking regularly for a few years.

Care to comment about the situation he opened the thread with? How would you have handled it if you were in that situation?

I wouldn't have done anything. It's a trivial dispute. Pretty much meaningless. Why even think about it? Those people probably won't even remember that you exist after 5 days from now. The whole thing is dumb. I wouldn't have gotten angry over someone thanking me, but it's not a big deal. Homeboy was agitated and expressed his feelings. That's some pretty gay shit, but pretty trivial stuff if you ask me.

But you should definitely consider quitting smoking.

OP, you were definitely a better man than me if some guy was trying to pull that alpha shit on me. It takes less than a minute to put your groceries in your car even if you bought $300 worth of groceries. I would have told that motherfucker to hold his breath until his groceries were in his vehicle.

I don't smoke. I hate 2nd hand smoke as well. But it's not worth being a prick about so I would just load up my car and not say shit and drive away... some people just want to bitch about nothing and you apparently ran into a guy who was just in the mood to bitch about nothing.

The bottom line is that you just ran into a random asshole. That's it. He may have been trying to flex in front of his girl but whatever. He's still just an asshole. You did the right thing to avoid any conflict. I certainly would have done the wrong thing if I was a smoker just minding my own business in a parking lot.

Thought I'd relay an interesting turn of events today. Sitting at the bar in my berg's only smoking dive restaurant/bar barely outside city limits. A young lady comes in and sits on the stool to my left...no words exexchanged. I light a cigarette a bit later and pretty soon she gets up and moves to the stool on my right. I say, I'm sorry did my smoke bother you? She said, No problem, it's not blowing this way.

I think that's the crux of my problem with the guy I wrote about...he expected me to accommodate him.

That's an interesting scenario. So this women sits next to you at the Bar a few moments later you light up. That's a psychological Que for her that you are contemplating striking up a conversation with her. She moves to the other stool not to get away from the smoke necessarily but the impending dialogue, Yeah. You should have turned to her and offered her a cigarette. She would have said something like "Oh I don't smoke or I quit ect". Then you could have offered to buy her a drink. She probably would have accepted. Then maybe a few more drinks she probably would have even smoked a Cigarette. You probably would have got her phone number. A few nights later ya see her again, a few more drinks she breaks out a pack of Cigarettes. Next thing ya know she's blowing you in the car, lol.
