What was there to get? Communism out? Castros Out? That wasn't going to happen by diplomacy but it will happen by attrition soon enough. Better to have a peaceful transition to some form of democracy rather than another blood bath when that time comes. Cuba is 90 miles off shore. I think Americans will start flocking there once the money starts flowing.

Yesterday's announcement by Obama was just a continuation of his past. We all know Obama's pre-president love affair with anti American types (Ayers, Rev. Johnson, New Socialist Party, ACORN, et al), the same theme has continued into his presidency.

President Obama was a good friend to Mohammad Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood’s man in Egypt. He has made nice with the mullahs in Iran, bailing their country out of serious economic woes under the pretense of slowing Iran’s nuclear weapons program. He “reset” relations with Russia on terms highly favorable to Putin and would have done more to help the autocrat, as he promised to do after he gained “flexibility” following the 2012 election, had Putin not set out to dismember Ukraine. And now the Castro brothers. Why not? Obama is now free of any domestic election blowback. He is free to act true to his nature - Anti American.

And who does Obama have his biggest public beef with ? America's closet's ally (and only true democracy) in the Middle East - Israel.

Please explain why you think normalization of relations with Cuba is a bad long term thing. Anyone with an ounce of sense knows we should have done this long ago but the fucking Cubian voters in Florida have made politicians wary of doing so.

The Cuban communists were hanging on by a thread; that thread was getting weaker each day. Their sponsor states - Russia and Venezuela were bailing on economic support. Obama threw the Cuban communists a life line. Because of Obama's initiatives, the Castros (and the Cuban Communist Party) are enabled to continue their harsh control of the economy and lives of the cuban people. For at least another generation, if not longer.

Obama got nothing in return; and he guaranteed the Communists retain power in Cuba for the foreseeable future. Nothing changes for the Cuban people, the Cuban communists remain in control, and WTF gets great cigars, fine sandy beaches, and hot cuban ladies to play with - the epitomy of the Ugly American.
