Barbecue Inn (truly old-school, like a 50s diner . . . because that's what it is; great fried shrimp, too; avoid the BBQ)
Al Aseel (seasoned with garlic and zaatar; them Palestinians got soul!)
Kenny & Ziggy's (just to cover all sides . . . they used to serve it every Wednesday, now only as a special; breaded with matzoh)
Spanish Village (on Almeda; trust me)
Funky Chicken (on Heights Blvd. south of I10; Bradley Ogden's new "fast food" joint; mashed potatoes with chicken gravy not to be missed)
Randall's on Westheimer @ Shepherd (not all Randall's, just this one; call in an order and they'll make it fresh and put it in a paper bag with little vents so it won't get soggy on the ride home)
Lucille's (in the Museum District)
Pondicherri (fried chicken with an Indian flair, breaded with chickpea flour)
Liberty Kitchen
Down House
Haven
Damian's
Frenchy's
Timmy Chan's
Popeye's

Strike out Down House, Liberty Kitchen and Timmy Chan's from above, and I agree.
Glad to see someone else likes the fried chicken at Haven.
Also at Haven is the Shrimp Corn Dogs, which are just short of heaven-sent.
