Commanders is a two time James Beard (best of the best) award winner. I love everything about it. The ambiance, the location, the service, food... really is an amazing restaurant. I loved taking the trolley through the garden district and walking the last part up to that beautiful building.
There are some really solid recipes in the book, the gumbo ya ya is a favorite of mine. I always add a bit to each of the recipes except the bread pudding...its perfection.
I was working on assignment in NOLA several years ago & took a chefs class at the New Orleans School of Cooking in my spare time. Its probably my favorite type of cooking to do...the French Acadians really are artists.
