I think the OP is well able to express what he believes and I am certain that my reading skills are well able to determine the argument being made.

The term red herring indicates an attempt to distract or mislead and anyone reading my comments should easily understand I advocate for more rather than less avenues of discussion. Period.

I am hoping to see more members express their opinions with regard to SHOULD anything be changed and if so what do they believe is more fair/functional.

There's no question the tables are tilted. This has been hashed and rehashed many times. Some folks get to play by one set of rules, while the rest have to adhere to another.

Another good reason to have all political discussions under one staff member. Many other reasons to move it all to natty as well.
Folks in sandboxes that are dominated by political threads ad nausem do not post other fun non political threads because they get drowned out. That's driven and driving many away. That's been proven. So talk about discouraging discourse!
Give the sand boxes back to the locals and move all political threads to natty. That WOULD help to increase participation in non political forums.
The total move to natty would help staff as well. It's a win win. That solves many on going problems for many.

You have opened the door for members to express their views so these 'on going problems' can easily be expressed if they actually exist. As for the 'under one staff member' tells me my original assessment of your motivation was correct. Again I would offer that you not liking the discourse or those involved does not equate to any changes needed.

Why haven't you picked up the olive branch from Post 4? He's repeated it in other posts as well.

That's getting glossed over by your focus on deletion... which wasn't advocated. That's what I see as a red herring rather than a poor choice of words, because it's not about elimination.

It's either redirection so that a common set of rules applies to all or a restoration and expansion of where the conversation can occur so that a common set of rules applies to all. It's part of the beauty of being able to advocate for a primary and secondary position.

Step back for a moment from the assumption that the same kudzu effect will choke out dialogue and lessen conversation.

Sure if you want to lose engagement, lose members visiting this site which generates ad revenue, etc go ahead and do that. Not a good business plan for a site already losing members and engagement but whatever.

The fact is most people have zero interest in posting on the national board. They stick to their local forum and rarely visit others. They want to have discussions with other local members

Not sure why you are so fixated on the Pittsburgh forum when it has been pointed out to you that multiple other areas discuss politics in their local sandboxes. If Pittsburgh bothers you so much, you can simply choose not to visit this section of the site (especially since your profile states you are from Austin)

Just an honest opinion, it seems to me that there are a lot more participants overall in the national forum for political discussions versus the state, where they are contributed by a handful of folks from the Pittsburgh forum. I know I've seen several folks from here in the national forum, don't really have a opinion about eliminating political posts in Pittsburgh- just would invite the Pittsburgh crew to participate more in the national where there are more opinions, thoughtful contributions interesting input. Not better per se, but more dynamic and I might even say colorful in that the folks there are from everywhere, not just here in PBurgh.

Just my two cents.

Why are we letting someone from another city lecture us on what we should or should not be allowed to do in our local Pittsburgh sandbox?

"Something is wrong with this picture."

A few years ago, I posted a lot of political stuff in the Dallas sandbox. A female poster I knew from the National Political Forum was being harassed there by a mean & nasty leftist, so I helped defend her. I'm happy to refute any & all stupid political opinions anywhere I find them.

Wrong lusty. I'm not lecturing. Just advocating for fairness across the board. Why should just a few like pitt be allowed to have political threads and most of us can't? Lil myopic there. In reality it would be better foe all political threads to be in the natty forum only. For many reasons.
Fairness is being advocated. If moved to natty forum no one's really losing anything. That's just a start on how it would be better.

That’s a tall stack of Buffalo chips right there. But I’ll play along. First off, I was posting in the “Natty” long before you came along. 80% of my post count was posted there. The only reason I went there was because Chica Chaser was the mod and basically had no rules except for outing. It was like that private forum you belong to. And that’s a whole new subject on “fairness” eh? But when he hung up his mod spurs it was moderated like other forums. Hence I lost interest in posting there. But if that changes, let me know. I’ll gladly bust your balls there.

“Give the sandbox back to the locals”. Now that’s rich. You’re not a “local” here. You’re from Austin. Where political threads are permitted. But you post here EVERYDAY in our “local” political threads. Your lack of self awareness is off the charts.

“People are driven away by political threads. It’s a PROVEN fact”. Oh yeah? Where is it proven? Do you have a double blind, peer reviewed study on this? If so, provide receipts.

“The total move will help the staff”. Oh paleeeese. I know you’re deeply concerned about the mods work load. Your sincerity is oozing thru the screen. I guess you forget all those emails you sent me blasting the mod staff. Who do you think you’re fooling here?

In conclusion, you should heed your own words. Go back to your local forum and let the PittsburgH locals handle their own business. Us Yinzers call people like you NEBBIE.

WD, why do you feel rights are not expansive?

By your logic if 49 states allowed legal slavery, you'd demand the 50th state should make slavery legal, because the others allow it, and that's not fair to all the SLAVE OWNERS, instead of focusing on more rights for slaves.

I see it the exactly opposite, got the forums that don't allow POLSPEAK and bitch at them, than trying to get our speech rights taken away.

Don't blame us for having an item you can't, worse, don't fuck with our freedoms, just because you don't have them.

Yeah, beware people who profess “fairness”, they’re Commies in disguise. When WD started posting in the “Natty”, as he calls it, he was conservative. But somewhere along the line he did a 180. He’s from Austin so I guess that explains it. At least he came out of the closet. Now he’s a full blown leftist who’s idea of “fairness” is his way or the highway.
