I like this because ALS isnt preventable
According to the Centers for Disease Control, far more people die each year from heart disease (596,577 in 2011),
cancer (576,691)
or Alzheimer’s (84,974) than
ALS ( perhaps 5,600).
http://www.cdc.gov/vitalsigns/HeartDisease-Stroke/
200,000
At least 200,000 deaths from heart disease and stroke each year are preventable.*
6 in 10
More than half of preventable heart disease and stroke deaths happen to people under age 65.
2x
Blacks are nearly twice as likely as whites to die from preventable heart disease and stroke

Over 73% of all donations raised are going to fundraising, overhead, executive salaries, and external donations. Less than 27% is actually used for the purpose we donated for.

http://www.alsa.org/donate/
I am moved by the generous donations being made to the ALS organization. I am also not oblivious to the fact that people on this site, FB, and YouTube are participating in it more for 'show' than anything else.
I seen some people do the challenge here the other night then yell out, "Yea, that's how we do it in the dub!" So, I asked had they made their donations... And they didn't even know the purpose of the challenge or who the donations went to.

read my post above, eh?
give $1 to the ALS foundation, about a quarter of that goes to research
Give to a different charity.
ICE BUCKET FRAUD: ALS FOUNDATION ADMITS THAT 73% OF DONATIONS ARE NOT USED FOR ALS RESEARCH
The ALS Foundation is a terrible organization to send your money.
If you decide to take the Ice Bucket Challenge, may I humbly suggest that you select a well-researched charity (on your own, no endorsements here) and send it to them.

According to the ECFA, a charitable watchdog, 27% of donations actually making it to the cause they are donated to is unacceptable
Jane H. Gilbert., the President & CEO took home $297,288 or 6.6x the average USA salary

Lol! We have been reading a few of the same articles I see.... And, I agree, there are far better organizations to give to. Nice links! Very interesting and informative.

The ALS Association spent 79% of our annual budget on programs and services last year, which includes JUST 28% on research, (or about a quarter of every dollar they raise)
that's low, other charities spend more of what they raise then just 28%
the ALS ass. does good work?, BUT there are charities that do BETTER work, with less money going to non-research areas.

I have a question. George Brett, the HoF third baseman for the Royals, used to do a lot of ALS fund raising thru his foundation. Did Brett do the ice bucket challenge? Just wondering, no other reason...
