Neither of the above is true. GM filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June 2009.

1. Obama signed off on giving GM 30 billion (along with Canada) to continue operating until a new entity was formed.

2. The US government owned 60% of the new entity. The unions owned 17.5% of the new entity. Clearly you misspoke.

3. Obama/Geitner forced GM to do the following before the new entity was formed.

a. Close the car divisions that made Hummers and Saturns (goofy looking cars that no one in America would buy).
b. Made the old CEO retire.

in a normal bankruptcy,

if its an 11. there would be a workout and settlement with creditors and a gm would have arisen
