It's the authenticity. Maybe because we are all under an anonymous essence when posting a data point, some of us are willing to go beyond what or who we really are.

Not claiming to have an eye or ear for Australian English, but I have my doubts.

For example I recently overheard a nice young couple speaking. First thought was Colombian. Sure enough, a few seconds later, the girl says something to the effect of "back in Colombia."

Good scenes. Brad Pitt's italian accent is a hoot. Also the extreme humor about Mountain Climbing.

I can usually recognize a Colombian too, the females anyway. And I don't need no stinking accent to know. They're the best looking women in hooker bars. And the best looking women in Panama period. If you're walking down the street in Panama City and see an attractive woman, nine times out of ten she's a Colombian or Venezuelan hooker.

I am lucky in that I can pick up on many accents, or hints at an accent, from speech. Both Latin and Germanic based. I watch as much world Football as I can because I love the sport. With that, I have heard any number of English and Spanish commentary. My dominant.

I'm a phonetics hound, not a literal linguist.

I went to get some blood drawn once, and the main phlebotomist had an Eastern European accent. When she said most people generically guess she was Russian, I blurted out Macedonian. She smiled and said I was close.
