Depending on your point of view the Crusades were either an attempt to prevent Islam from moving West or a Papal sanctioned effort to spread Christianity to the East.

In either case, the Christians finally realized they were misinterpreting the Great Commission and basically asked themselves if killing in Christ's name to enforce that Commission was what he intended. Changes in the church resulted in a change in thought that remains for the most part today. Evangelize to all men and all nations but do it in peace. Islam has not had the same renaissance.
Actually, the Crusades ended because the Pope's armies kept getting their ass kicked. They then proceeded to establish inquisitions and purges to spread the "Gospel of Love". This went on up until several hundred years ago. Christianity is in a more peaceful period right now, but there are plenty of calls for violence in the Christian scriptures. This does not justify or excuse what the radical Muslims are doing. They are evil, and must be stopped.

Mainstream Christians understand there is a lunatic fringe, like Westboro Baptist and the militant anti-abortion nuts. Those terms do not reflect the underlying religion.
Another excellent post. It is a shame that AssupLiar can't ever get the dicks out of his mouth long enough to post something intelligent like this.

Actually, people forget that the retaking the Iberian peninsula was part of the Crusades, and that struggle ended in 1492 when Ferdinand and Isabella kicked the Moors out of Granada.

"When the crusades to the Holy Land became less frequent, Spanish crusades were at their apogee, the subject of bulls from several popes, and concentrating the efforts of native and foreign fighters. During all this period, the indulgences granted to the 'fighting pilgrims' were the same as those granted to those going to the Holy Land. Pilgrimage to Santiago was very closely linked to crusade in Spain, and to the ideology of pilgrimage/crusade to the Holy Land. The papacy always tried to keep Spanish knights preoccupied with engagements in their own territory, while offering the Church and faithful the possibility to finance crusading endeavours throughout the eastern and western territories." "[The] spiritual benefits of crusading bulls were still offered to the Spanish until the Second Vatican Council of 1963" (source).

"Humanity has been grappling with these questions throughout human history. And lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ. Michelle and I returned from India -- an incredible, beautiful country, full of magnificent diversity -- but a place where, in past years, religious faiths of all types have, on occasion, been targeted by other peoples of faith, simply due to their heritage and their beliefs -- acts of intolerance that would have shocked Gandhiji (sic), the person who helped to liberate that nation. So this is not unique to one group or one religion. There is a tendency in us, a sinful tendency that can pervert and distort our faith. In today’s world, when hate groups have their own Twitter accounts and bigotry can fester in hidden places in cyberspace, it can be even harder to counteract such intolerance. But God compels us to try. And in this mission, I believe there are a few principles that can guide us, particularly those of us who profess to believe."

God help us, we have a president that equates the Muslim Jihad with the crusades and Jim Crow. Apparently he doesn't see the difference.
You're an idiot.

1. What he says is true.

2. Why he is saying it is because he is trying to make the 1.5 billion muslims in the world understand that not all of us are fucking idiots like you and the rest of the retard clown posse on here who condemn those 1.5 billion Muslims because of the actions and beliefs of a very small percentage of shitbags who call themselves Muslims.

3. Fuck you.

Go fuck your self timmy... and then have a warm cup of camel piss. You and Ojammyboy can talk about equality.

Obama’s “secret” meeting with Muslim leaders wasn’t about Islamic terrorism but about increasing Democrat support for Muslim supremacists in America

Barack Hussein Obama quietly met with a group of radical Muslim political activists in the White House Feb. 4th to provide them with even more Muslim outreach programs than ever before.

Unbelievable bullshit.

But why is anyone surprised? This shit is spouted by a guy who locked his kid in a closet so he wouldn't watch Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.

Hey SLOBBRIN. Did you see "the movie" yet or are you still banned from your local multiplex?

BTW, Cortez had Native American allies when he defeated the Aztecs. So you wholly misattribute how many Native Americans were intentionally killed by "Europeans", Old-THUMPER, and you just went on record that you are defending human sacrifice and ritual cannibalism, Old-THUMPER.

Bumbling, stupid, and illiterate--you have quite a trifecta going.

I wasn't talking about guns and swords you fool. I thought you were a great historian. The killing mechanism was DISEASE. Measles, influenza, etc. And it often killed whole populations before the Europens ever reached them. The diseases traveled faster than the conquistadors and settlers.

And according to your (stupid) statements earlier, those "allies" of the Spaniards couldn't have existed. They were from what is now Mexico you renounce the existence of any such people. According to you anyone living in Mexico must be an Aztec. More knowledge from your advanced history degree?

But this should at least give you lots of material to rant your way onward and upward to your next milestone!

Hence the fucking qualifier "intentional", Old-THUMPER, you pretentious stalking troll.

So you concede that your emphatic "Europeans killed" Native Americans is a mendacious oversimplification of what happened when factors such as disease and existing hostile relationships between tribes are factored into the equation, Old-THUMPER. It's good that you acknowledge your ignorance and stupidity, Old-THUMPER.

BTW, Old-THUMPER, you were disabused of your asinine notion that there would have been a country called "Mexico" without the Aztecs who called themselves "Mexica", you pretentious stalking troll. You were further disabused of your asinine notion that the "Mexica" stole Mexico from the Aztecs who called themselves "Mexica", you pathetically stupid, stalking troll. Hence, the word "Mexicano" did not magically appear to the conquistadors in a vision quest, did it, Old-THUMPER?
