Von's comments about Paul H. video reminded me of an old Johnny Carson interview with Jimmy Steward. If you watch this - make sure you have some tissue close.

Sincere Condolences.

Lost a close pet myself 3-4 months ago. Only time can help the hurt because it can never completely heal.

I had a private cremation with the ashes returned to me. For some reason this helped a lot. Felt good to have the old man back home again and his ashes are now on a cabinet in the room he'd sit in waiting for his pack to return home.

Condolences - as I write this, I have my pack sitting here in my office - my 12 yr old Bassett, my 5 yr old GS/Rotty, my 3 yr old pug and 14 month old English bully.... Can't even imagine what I would do if I was in your shoes.... I do hope you are able to identify the responsible party and that they are appropriately punished (whatever that may be)

When the time is right, I do encourage you to look into the various BH rescue groups here in the metroplex - the best way to honor a loved one is to pay forward the love they shared

I currently have the ashes of my 3 deceased dogs, in photo engraved wooded urns - they sit upon shelves in my office, surrounded by pictures of children playing with them ...in a tree and flower filled planting bed in my backyard, my children placed their "fairy village" setup, including a rainbow bridge - it is there that each pet is memorialize with a granite headstone (ordered from Orvis.com). Many nights, the pack and I will sit there and just watch the sun set over the course

I am so sorry that happened to you. Were they trying to break in to your place? Or was it just a malicious act?

I`m sitting here with my crew laying at my feet, and 4 more in their wooden boxes on the mantle.
Words can`t express the anger when I see something like this.
I don`t know if you have seen this, but the Rainbow Bridge is something all dog lovers should read. I don`t think anyone can read it and still have a dry eye.

So sorry about your loss...

Don't call the police because they aren't going to do anything without a suspect and proof. Plus it takes away your ability to even the score.

It wasn't a thief and it wasn't random. It was either the neighbor's kid version of hunting or a neighbor that directly borders your property who has a problem with you/your dog. I guarantee this was done from across the fence.

I'm sorry about your dog and I hope you make things right.

I've been divorced twice, out lived my parents. I've been fired a couple of times too. Those times all seemed traumatic while they were going on. Absolutely nothing fucked me up like losing my almost 17 year old puppy.

I am very sorry this happen, The person responsible is dangerous, I hope you find out who it was.

Von, very sorry to hear of your loss. As previously stated, it's highly likely the culprit is a neighbor. And, it might be a neighbor that is within spitting distance of your home.

Might very well be a neighbor kid trying out his new .22 as well. Boys get to that age where they are nothing but mean and destructive little shit bags. I'm not sure of your neighborhood demographic, but in my community we had a problem with a pack of these tween vandals egging homes, knocking holes in window shutters and windows, damaging mail boxes and all other manner of shit-baggery. Our HOA had to contract extra security and these little fuckers were finally caught, but I was the target of these punks more than once and I've always been thankful I never caught them myself or there was no telling of the severity of the ass-kicking I would have dished out. But, killing someone's pet is a step beyond all of that and I agree it is a hanging offense.

I am so sorry you lost your buddy, especially in such a cruel way. I lost my pet three years ago and have not been able to bring myself to get another yet. Whoever did this to your pup is a cruel and twisted being. My dad always said that someone who would be cruel to animals would eventually do the same to people if not stopped. Hope you find whoever did this and that they receive the justice they so richly deserve.
