Somebodies lying ,, soylent greens coming LOL
There's more to it than the top-line numbers.

Israel had fully vaccinated slightly over half its population by March 25. Infections waned, venues reopened to the vaccinated and the prime minister told Israelis to go out and have fun. By June, all restrictions, including indoor masking, were abolished.

But Israel paid a price for the early rollout. Health officials, and then Pfizer, said their data showed a dip in the vaccine's protection around six months after receiving the second shot.

The good news is that among Israel's serious infections on Thursday of this week, according to Health Ministry data, the rate of serious cases among unvaccinated people over age 60 (178.7 per 100,000) was nine times more than the rate among fully vaccinated people of the same age category, and the rate of serious cases among unvaccinated people in the under-60 crowd (3.2 per 100,000) was a little more than double the rate among vaccinated people in that age bracket.

The bad news, doctors say, is that half of Israel's seriously ill patients who are currently hospitalized were fully vaccinated at least five months ago. Most of them are over 60 years old and have comorbidities. The seriously ill patients who are unvaccinated are mostly young, healthy people whose condition deteriorated quickly.

Just more proof that indicates a booster shot is needed after about 6-8 months, especially for the elderly.

Did you say "math and facts"?

Since you voted for Bitten your "command" of "math and facts" is pretty well documented .... not to mention your qualifications to assess anything!

Now how many U.S. citizens are still in Afghanistan? How many want to stay there?

Now how about the U.S. "partners" who are still in Afghanistan? How many are still there?

Now how many people in the U.S. have died from complications after being "vaccinated"?

Why is it "NECESSARY" to take a 2nd pop and then a "booster" for the MANDATORY vaccine?

Has THE DEMENTED ONE explained that to you? Or is he just still mumbling bullshit?

It’s good that you’re curious enough to ask questions. Since Blackman isn’t here right now to answer I’ll continue this Socratic debate, with more questions

How many of our partners would still be left in Afghanistan if Stephen Miller were still calling the shots on immigration in a second Trump term?

How many people have died from COVID? Is it more than 1000X the number of people who have died from the vaccines?

Can you trust the numbers that are coming out of Israel and the Mayo Clinic system that show immunity from the Pfizer vaccine is wearing off? Does it make sense that the FDA is therefore likely to authorize Pfizer boosters soon for the general population?

Does it make sense to get a flu vaccine every year?

How big of an issue really is COVID in Texas, at this point in time? How are freedoms currently being abridged? Are the DWI, speeding and seat belt laws now much bigger infringements on our liberty and freedom than COVID mandates? And exactly what government sponsored mandates do we have outside of mask policies passed by LOCAL school districts? And how big of a deal is it for a kid to wear a mask?

And following from that, why aren’t we far more worried about the economic policies of the so called demented one than his views on COVID? The huge deficits and higher taxes and higher inflation that flow from 7 trillion in additional spending?

If you understood math or science you’d know the answers to your own questions. But if your base of knowledge comes from Telegraph and the likes of Oeb and Bambino, you might be less knowledgeable than you believe.

Default Who says one can't learn stuff in this esteemed forum!

For Israeli's over 50, you were almost 7 times likelier to be hospitalized if unvaccinated. The vaccines in August were 85% to 95% effective against severe disease. (1)(2)

The reasons for the seeming discrepancy,

1. The percentage of COVID patients in Israeli hospitals with severe COVID who are vaccinated was actually around 50% to 60%, not 80%, a few weeks ago. Now, perhaps because of boosters, Israel has more unvaccinated hospitalized patients than vaccinated hospital patients. (1)(2)(3)

2. A substantially higher percentage of older people are vaccinated in Israel than younger people.

3. Older people are much more likely to be hospitalized from COVID than younger people. Like orders of magnitude more likely.

Consider this example. If, say, 100% of old people were vaccinated, and the vaccine reduced their probability of hospitalization by 90%, so they were 100X likelier to be hospitalized than young, unvaccinated people instead of 1000X more likely, then still most of the hospitalized will be old, vaccinated people.

Excellent!!

I am pleased that someone here is not only familiar with Simpson's Paradox, but can explain this issue in such simple and concise fashion that even those who may suffer from a rather severe case of innumeracy should be able to (kinds, sorta) "get" the issue!

LOL ... I believe I'll pass on the last menu item!

Although my spirit of public service might encourage me to help you teach remedial math, I'm afraid I ran out of the patience required to so long ago. Was restless enough as a graduate student and T.A., as well as being very shallow. (Wanted to do stuff like buy a Corvette and live in a damned nice apartment. Lucky thing I hadn't thought about high-end hookers yet!)

(So ... hello card-counting, Ed Thorp style!)

However ...

A friend of mine from way back in my undergrad skool daze is a professor emeritus of mathematics at a major university and says that the estimable Michael Starbird (UT-Austin) did some wonderful DVD lectures on a bunch of topics a few years ago. Conditional, empirical, and posterior probability, calculus (of course!), advanced geometry, real analysis, and even topology (I think). I understand they are among the most highly recommended mathematics teaching videos for university students with wide ranges of aptitude.

Well, OK. Chung Tran is eminently qualified to teach that class,

Encounter: Raw Dogged a Plump Pregnant Girl in a Redbird Roach Motel.. let me tell you about it!

https://www.eccie.net/showthread.php...post1061828570

But if it's not your cup of tea, I understand.

I tried card counting, once, and it was damn hard work. Given the amount of money I was willing to risk I could have made about $25 an hour, theoretically, and I figured out there are easier ways to make money. But that was after graduating. I'm impressed you worked your way through college that way. It would definitely beat TA'ing and working for your advisor for slave wages.

The best math prof I had, and maybe the best period, William Guy, was probably a colleague of Starbird.

Actually card counting itself is a lot easier than people make it out to be, the problem isn't counting the cards and knowing when the deck is "loaded" and it's time to make your big bets. The problem is that that "eye in the sky" knows how to count cards too and it's almost impossible to make any real money counting cards without getting tossed out before you have made your first thousand bucks.

Has Biden explained that to you?
Why do you need the booster after the second pop? Answer:

SARS CoV2 virus mutates quickly just like the seasonal flu virus. The message in the messenger RNA (mRNA) has the instructions to make the antibody( plus several variations) for the original version of SARS CoV2 that landed in the USA Jan 2020. Thus the original vaccine works well against the alpha(GB) and beta variants (South Africa). The booster is needed for protection against future variants. As long as SARS CoV2 can infect it has shown that it can and will mutate.

Biden is an attorney by trade. Didn't he go to Syracuse Law School? He like Trump will not get into the science behind the vaccines. You should be happy that Biden did not suggest that Covid patients be injected with a disinfectant like the Trumpster did.

Well that is a matter of debate. I think most people would say that Biden is a politician by trade, not exactly something to brag about IMHO, but yes he did go to Syracuse Law School and gradutated 76th in a class of 85 but graduate he did, even after getting caught plagiarizing on one of the papers he turned in. I guess once a liar, always a liar.

The booster is the same vaccine administered again.

What adav is talking about is an entirely new vaccine to target variants. That's not what a booster is.

The booster is needed because the vaccine effectiveness only lasts a few months, and then you need another dose of the same vaccine.

And then of course you will need a vaccine for each one of the variants, from Alpha to Omega, and then possibly one for each constellation in the sky once they run out of Greek letters. lol

Does anyone here think that there will EVER be an end to this? I think COVID "emergency powers" will expire right after the Patriot Act is repealed. Government, ALL governments love power and they never give it up willingly once the people concede their rights, usually out of fear of some boogie man.

So far they're saying that the booster (which is the original vaccine administered again) offers adequate protection against variants.

Want to bet a dollar on how long THAT guidance lasts?

"So far" means until the world starts feeling secure again. It's somuch easier to convince people to give up their freedoms when they are scared shitless.

In the interest of being "fair and balanced" this is what the GOP did 20 years ago with the Patriot Act. Neither party has a monopoly on being power hungry.
