Tiny, I’m not for tariffs. There shouldn’t be tariffs. Trump told the EU he would support zero tariffs if they were reciprocal. They balked. So should the US just take it? Free trade should be fair trade. There’s so many moving parts. IE special interests. Like I said, it’s far over anyone’s pay grade here to establish what our strategy is. And I will say Trump has far more information and smarter than anyone here. It’s undeniable that Mexico caved and the Chinese are at least negotiating. It’s better than it’s been for decades.

definition of circle jerk (I prolly will get pointed for this lol)

1a A group discussion or activity between like-minded individuals that validates mutual biases or goals in a non-confrontational environment.

1b When a bunch of blowhards - usually politicians - get together for a debate but usually end up agreeing with each other's viewpoints to the point of redundancy, stroking each other's egos as if they were extensions of their genitals (ergo, the masturbatory insinuation). Basically, it's what happens when the choir preaches to itself.

1b1 A term often used to refer to when a group of people attempt to debate a topic, but it is taken over by people who all agree with each other trying to boost their egos.

1b2 A Circlejerk, as it relates to politics, is when a group of people with the same political ideology "discuss" political topics. The resulting discussion is completely pointless due to the group already having the same ideas. The participants usually have not had a political discussion with one of the opposing political side and make absurd generalizations about the opposite side, demonizing them as much as possible. It is impossible for one of the opposing views to join in the activity because that would defeat the purpose of the activity.

1c Also refers to a pompous, self-congratulatory discussion where little to no progress is made.

1d A useless discussion or meeting involving mental masturbation whereby the egotistical, boring participants try to demonstrate they're the smartest persons in the room.

1e Sometimes used to describe an internet forum thread where forum members all give each other kudos (Or rep where a rep system is present) for some non-event that has occurred.

1f a lot of work without accomplishing anything

1g A group discussion involving management types who lack any real substantive knowledge of the topic at hand. The outcome of which is a decision that adversely affects those who are actually tasked to do the work. A circle jerk is almost always followed by a clusterfuck.

1h The practice of expressing emotions, feelings, and impractical sentiments as a means of bonding or gaining appreciation for the members of your team. Related activities may include, but are not limited to making lists, repeatedly affirming one's consent with another persons already expressed opinion, etc.

2a When a group of males sit in a circle, jerking each other off.

2b To kneel in a circle with others and pleasure oneself.

2c *NOT* when a group of males stand in a circle to jerk off onto a cookie or anything of the sort. That retarded frat game is called "Limp Biscuit"... which kind of indirectly explains why the band of the same namesake is so fucking horrible.

2c1 When a Group Of Men Masturbate in a Circle and all Ejaculate onto a Cookie. Whoever Ejaculates the Least, has to Eat the Cookie.

2c2 When guys stand in a circle and jerk off, preferably onto a willing woman participant.

2d Group masturbation, usually males, sitting or standing in a circle jerking themselves or each other off.

2e A group of men who stand in a circle and use the right hand to masturbate for the man behind him. Usually a big hit at parties! Its all usually for a good cause.

2f a bunch of guys sitting around wanking.... a big group jerk off.

2g A group of battling males get together to masturbate and compete in races to see who can "jizz" first or the most.

3 A fraternity initiation ritual or hazing whereby the lights are turned off. The pledge or pledges are told it's a circle jerk. The actives pound their fists together in the darkness simulating the sound of jerking off. The lights are then turned on suddenly and the pledge or pledges are the only ones in the circle with their dicks out.

4a A game on MXC that's based on sumo wrestling. Beware the Green Teabagger.

4a1 A game on MXC where contestants pick a ball out of a box and the color they get determines who they face. It is kinda like sumo wrestling. There is always 2 scrawny guys a muscle guy and the master sumo man, and sometimes Ralph is there too with his famous "the green teabagger"

5 The Circle Jerks are a hardcore punk band formed circa 1979 in Hermosa Beach, California. It was formed by Black Flag's original singer, Keith Morris, and future Bad Religion guitarist Greg Hetson. They were among the preeminent punk bands of the L.A. scene in the early 1980s.

6 A webmaster lingo for a website that redirects traffic from one website to a circle of websites, to "jerk" or otherwise pester the surfer to eventually purchase something due to frustration of being redirected from page to page that lacks content. Porn TGP are commonly known to employ circle jerk tactics.

7a Someone who accelerates when entering a traffic circle to cut off other drivers traveling at normal speeds.

7b A circle jerk is the abrupt, jerking stop after pulling the handbrake while doing doughnuts in a car.

7c Circle Jerk is also a term used by road racing fans to describe an oval racing driver. Typically these are IRL and NASCAR drivers who go around in circles all day.

8a Someone who is being a genuine douchebag on Google+. They can either be making a bunch of really stupid updates, making rude comments on your posts, or +1ing updates about your grandmother dying.

8b When a Google+ user shares your post, pic or video outside its limited circle or group without your permission.

9 A jerk with a crappy acoustic guitar who sits in a circle surrounded by other like-minded people playing the same crappy chord over and over and singing really bad home made lyrics, most commonly found on University Campus' and parks.

10 Prostitutes term for a male who drives around the block looking at hookers but not picking one up.

11a A ritual in which multiple negroes excitedly form a circle and proceed to perform a dance which is synonymous with the hit 2009 hip-hop song "You're a Jerk (I know)" by the New Boyz. Said dance called "the jerk" is performed at many parties and gatherings and street corners where the ratio of negroes to white men is greater than 4:1.

11b To do the popular dance The Jerk, in a subway with a group of at least 3 people, while chanting "Circle jerk! Circle jerk!" enthusiastically.

Bambino, The farmers in the EU have too much political power. They're never going to give up tariffs. The EU is not a big offender though. Before the USA implemented new tariffs on steel, aluminum, and some other products, our weighted average tariff on all imports was effectively the same as theirs, between 1.6% and 1.8% for both of us, depending on which set of data you look at.

I agree, the USA should pursue the Chinese to protect intellectual property and better access their markets. There are much smarter ways to do it though than the current strategy, if you can call it that. We should be working with Europe, Japan and Canada instead of getting in trade disputes with them. If we're going to implement restrictions on Chinese trade, let's do it in an intelligent manner. Ignore textiles and toys. For Chinese companies like Huawei that stole our intellectual property, don't let them sell those products to the U.S. that we can obtain for the same price elsewhere. If the Chinese won't let us compete in their banking or auto industries, place restrictions on them investing in the USA. If they're going to ignore our patents, maybe we should ignore theirs.

When I say "we", I mean the free world, not just the USA. We currently account for only 16% of China's exports. And their exports only account for 20% of their GDP. So that means their exports to us are only 3.2% of their GDP. If we were to shut them off completely, they would just redirect most of the effected production to other countries. We don't have as much leverage over them as people here think. However, Europe, the USA, Canada, Japan, etc. working together do have a lot of leverage.

Trump has far more information available than any of us, but often he doesn't use it. Fortunately, much of the time his staff, some of whom are indeed far more informed and smarter than us and who have good instincts, pick up the slack. They've been missing in action on trade recently. There are a couple of posters here, both of whom are almost always on the same side of issues as you, who I'd trust far more than Trump to steer trade policy.

Well Tiny, that’s an altruistic, naive view of things. And pretty much what The cognoscenti has been saying. But the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. Is the EU a great Allie? Germany is piping in 90% of their energy from Russia!!!!! GB will soon leave the EU and Trump promised a great trade deal with them. Italy probably won’t be far behind.,Who knows what the future of the EU is. They’re globalists anyway and want to maintain the status quo. We have a new trade deal with South Korea and the USMCA is on the table waiting to be signed. Pelosi will stall as much as she can. So Trump is building a coalition of democratic countries. In the meantime, he’s putting pressure on China while the world watches. It’s further than we’ve been before and Trump should be applauded for taking a leadership role. Something Obama was unwilling and unable to do. I don’t know how this will turn out. XI can play the long game because he’s President for life and controls all facets of Chinese society. But it’s worth a try.

Seriously? I thought it was 90% of their energy from renewables: solar, wave, unicorn farts </sarc>?

Yep https://oilprice.com/Energy/Natural-...e-Costly.html#

I never said the EU was a great ally. I don't understand why we subsidize their defense. However, instead of demanding that they spend 2% of their GDP's on defense like Trump's done, we should withdraw our troops and military aid or get them to pay for it. We should save our money.

But that's neither here nor there. The EU doesn't take advantage of us on trade. This is fiction. Back in 2015 (I don't have anything more recent) the USA charged $7.1 billion in tariffs on imports from the EU, and the EU charged $5.7 billion on imports from the U.S. The weighted average tariffs for both on the others exports are around 1.5% or 2%.

Yes, they export more to us than we do to them, and in Trump's zero sum world that somehow bizarrely becomes they take more from us than we take from them. I suspect a large part of the reason has been higher income taxes in the USA. Our corporate income tax before Trump was around 40%, including state income taxes. Now it's around 26%. Europe's is 22.5%. With time this reduction in our rates improves our ability to compete and will cause the trade "imbalance" to go down. Trump's deregulation will help too.

As to the gas pipeline from Russia to Germany, Trump, to his credit, is probably more interested in getting more business for U.S. natural gas producers than he is in Europe's security. As gnadfly's link shows, this is not as big an issue as you think. The pipeline wasn't really even needed. It largely duplicates another pipeline that crosses Ukraine. The Ukrainians were charging large transit fees for the gas and the Russians want to mess in Ukrainian internal affairs, so Putin figured he'd just sidestep Ukraine.

Tiny, some of the stuff you say is just twaddle. How do you know that Trump cares more about selling NG to Germany than their security. How do you know this? If the pipeline wasn’t needed, why was it built and why are Germans buying a majority of their energy from Russia? But rely on us for military protection? You don’t need help from WTF, you’re sounding just like him.
