1a A group discussion or activity between like-minded individuals that validates mutual biases or goals in a non-confrontational environment.
1b When a bunch of blowhards - usually politicians - get together for a debate but usually end up agreeing with each other's viewpoints to the point of redundancy, stroking each other's egos as if they were extensions of their genitals (ergo, the masturbatory insinuation). Basically, it's what happens when the choir preaches to itself.
1b1 A term often used to refer to when a group of people attempt to debate a topic, but it is taken over by people who all agree with each other trying to boost their egos.
1b2 A Circlejerk, as it relates to politics, is when a group of people with the same political ideology "discuss" political topics. The resulting discussion is completely pointless due to the group already having the same ideas. The participants usually have not had a political discussion with one of the opposing political side and make absurd generalizations about the opposite side, demonizing them as much as possible. It is impossible for one of the opposing views to join in the activity because that would defeat the purpose of the activity.
1c Also refers to a pompous, self-congratulatory discussion where little to no progress is made.
1d A useless discussion or meeting involving mental masturbation whereby the egotistical, boring participants try to demonstrate they're the smartest persons in the room.
1e Sometimes used to describe an internet forum thread where forum members all give each other kudos (Or rep where a rep system is present) for some non-event that has occurred.
