Interesting discussion.
Several responses for P411
P411 is great, however not everyone has P411, or even heard of P411. Thats why she is asking the question. Maybe the question should be rephrased.
If you do not have a P411 account or No refs or do want to give up personal info.......how do you want to be screened????
Gotta be rare when the provider comes to you openly and asked how you prefer to be screen. Lol.

Traci,
Your newbie screening technique worked for me.
Have a question....
If i'm requesting an appointment from a provider I haven't seen before, I usually do it through P411. Should I list a couple of references from the okays in addition to the list of P411 okays or leave it up to the lady to decide which okays to contact, if any?

Great thread, Traci. Personally, I would also like an alternative to P411 and reference checks.
P411 is a wonderful tool, but these days an *okay* doesn't mean much, even from "veteran" providers. Some veteran providers think BBFS requests are OK. Some think rough treatment BCD is *okay* as long as they got paid. Everyone's definition of *okay* varies, especially recently (also why I have my P411 disabled...the times, they are a-changin'). As stated before, even Gina has drilled into our heads that it is up to us to be thorough in our screening and NOT to rely solely on "okays".
I don't think there are many alternatives outside of what's already been suggested...and that sucks.

CoHorn - Haha. You're way outside the box anyway. Somehow, I don't see that suggestions working out, though. :P
ithyphallicus - Thank you.
The Proper Stranger - Great post. On the subject of P411, while those changes might be nice, similar thoughts have been brought up to Gina before, and my impression is that she's not real keen on the idea. She has a system that works for her, and that's great. It WOULD be nice if someone would come along with a different system that was geared more toward what we providers might find helpful, though. P411 IS a great tool, but a much better tool for you guys than us ladies.
Lisa - LOL. Thanks, hun. I could not figure out how to get that point across.
txhunter56 - Yes it did, hun, and you are a shining example of why I love to be newbie friendly. As for your question, that really shouldn't be necessary. If you like, you can let her know that she's welcome to contact any of your okays, but really a lady either will or won't... she won't wait for permission either way. Now, if you have references that are NOT on P411, and you think she may have trouble getting responses from your okays, you might throw out there that you have more refs if she needs them.
Dannie - Thanks, hun. And yes, that was my point exactly, that "okay" means many different things to many different people. It WOULD be nice to find some new methods, but I think what we are discovering is that we need a new reference system. One geared more toward the provider's needs, that way screening is MUCH easier for everyone. Something more like what The Proper Stranger was saying...

The issue - in my opinion, boils down to where, how and how long the information is stored and kept.
This is what prevents me from going indy. I'm beginning to realise that it's what I want though, so I'll need to begin again.

Time is money. Is there a way to offer the ladies $5 per reference then tack on a $20 newbie surcharge?

I hope this isn't a hijack, but I'd like to turn the question around for the OP. As a new client, what can I do or say that will make feel comfortable? I have P411 (they verified my employment) but have no OK's. I have no references or reviews, and I'm not going to give out personal, real-world info. What outside-the-box idea would make this work for you?

I love it when people start thinking out-of-the-box and come up with radical new ideas.

Um, let's see... You have no OKs. Nobody can vouch for you. You don't want to let any provider get access to any personal information. You could be LE. You could be a psycho. How does anyone know without references?
"Out of the box" doesn't mean out of the frying pan and into the fire...

billw1032 - Actually, I already DO have a solution to your particular issue. Since P411 has already done the work verification, I would consider that part done. So the only part of my newbie screening you would still need to deal with would be the $100 deposit which would of course count toward your first session. Problem solved.

How would that work out? CC payment? Never heard about that before, is that common?

Green Dot. Completely anonymous for you, since you can ONLY buy them with cash, and safe for me because once you give me the number and I load it on my card, you can't take it back. It's gone, it's mine, so you'd better show up for your appointment. :P
