One thing I have learned over time, is that as bad as things look for me, there are always other people who are carrying a heavier burden. Some of thos elessons I have learned here, some out there in the 'real' world.
Goes back to that old Sunday school lesson that goes something like this: If we all took the crosses we are bearing and placed them in a pile, and then were given a chance to choose any one of the crosses in that pile, most of us would reach for our original cross. The crosses of others would seem to hard to bear.
All we can do is live each day like it is our last, enjoy each day, spend it with your loved ones. I lost two of my greatest 4-legged friends in the last few weeks. Each day they woke up and greeted me with a cold muzzle, expecting me to help them through that day. Each night, they settled into their bed next to mind, happy to be close to me. Ah, that humans could learn to appreciate life the way they did. I do miss them.

Or, we can put on the boxing gloves and go toe to toe. When I'm done whooping your ass, you can put your panties back on and and yell "I am woman, here me roar!" lmao

I have gone through a dark phase and occasionally seek its depth and coldness as warm and inviting.
Even though married with two boys from first marriage and a new grandson, there always seems to be a whisper.
The only thing that seems to quiet the sirens song isn't ear plugs.
For me its making someone else more important than myself.
A friend from this site shared her family with me and I spend my efforts on seeing their lives improved. Good can keep evil at bay.
Find something or someone more important than yourself and then work for his/her/their happiness.
Or not.
This drowns out the whispers for me.
Best to you.

Motorload,
I don't know if you believe in a God or not, but I do. Many will talk about "His Will". I have a bit of a different viewpoint. I find it hard to ignore, evolution... and the many things we have learned over thousands of years. But it is possible that a supreme being put things into motion, and lets them go without intervention.
I believe we have free will, and this means we have a great amount of control over our lives, but means we also lack control. For example, free will means I decide if and when to walk into the convenience store, but another with free will can decide to hold it up, and possibly shoot me in the process. I don't believe that "God" makes the decision for me to die directly, it is made indirectly in the free will of others.
Even cancer, and illness are not his will, but the product of how our bodies, and the many organisms we live with interact. But I believe difficulty, challenge, illness, and heartache provide their own benefits. If there was no pain, could we feel pleasure? To feel one extreme, we must experience the other. Without being able to feel the loss of a loved one, I don't believe we would love. The bonds that we make in life with others bring us, them, and others in society benefits.
I think our purpose in this life is to positively impact the lives of others. Our work helps us to grow as a society.
So, what is our purpose... I'm not sure I or anyone else has the definitive answer. For right now, I just strive to make sure that I do the best I can for society, and myself.
Life is sometimes hard, but even when we lose a loved one, the thing we need to remember is the love we have for each other. This will always Triumph any loss we feel in the short term.

Theres a reason its called the human condition.
I for one will not be so naive and blind and say its in any deity's hands as to the cause behind any of it.
The best I can tell you is that shit happens and then you die. There is no rhyme or reason. Some people get lucky, others dont. Dont put yoir faith in anything and you cant be hurt.
some might call me jaded, i prefer the term "realist"

Everyone passes on at some point. It's the gift of mortality that should focus each of us on making every moment count. God's plan is nothing we have any control over and that's that. God loves each of us and will be there to welcome us home when it's our time. It's sad (for those left behind) when anyone passes on but death should be as celebrated with the same joy as the birth of a child since each represents a new beginning. You can feel bad for lost friends and loved ones but celebrate the departed's passage to a better place. I'm sorry that life hasn't been what you anticipated or desired but I've always believed that we make our lives as happy as we desire them to be. Money doesn't buy happiness. Some of the happiest people I know have little financially but are blessed with families that celebrate and life life together. Being married doesn't entitle you to happiness (as I write this messae on this website) any more than having wealthy parents guarantee you'll do just as well (God knows I've seen plenty of kids spawned by well-to-do successful couples that will likely end up in jail before the Court or Board Room). I hope you can find some peace and solace on which to commence building a foundation of happiness and contentment.
If you're expressed thoughts are deeply felt, perhaps you should express them in greater detail to someone that can assist you (priest? friend? coulselor?)?

Glad you are feeling a little better and seeing a little light in the darkness. Hell, most with some years on them can look back and see the messes one has made. To dwell on them speaks to a desire to do/be "better" and while they are good learning tools for not screwing stuff up in the future, there are also good things in the rear view mirror, too. Try to give them their due as well.
Do the best you can with what you've got and try not to be one who starts sh*t (and if you have to finish what someone else started, do so with as much compassion and style you can muster) - heaven, purgatory, hell may inhabit the area between our ears as the last thoughts we have before passing.....
